From the author of the number one bestselling The Corner Shop in Cockleberry Bay. Really disappointing, nowhere near book one
Reviewed: 18-09-24
Such a shame, the writing in book 2 is dire! I’m struggling to get to the end, cliched and corny and the new narrator is so hammy, disappointed.
Rosa to me is deeply unlikeable, her trauma and alcoholism is kind of made a fuss of then swept under the carpet. And the marriage story is just preposterous, there is nothing believable about the romance or her magnetism. This is a cringey listen, I loved the first book, what a pity.

Story
Rosa Larkin is down on her luck in London, so when she inherits a near-derelict corner shop in a quaint Devon village, her first thought is to sell it for cash and sort out her life. But nothing is straightforward about this legacy. While the identity of her benefactor remains a mystery, he - or she - has left one important legal proviso: that the shop cannot be sold, only passed on to somebody who really deserves it. Rosa makes up her mind to give it a go: to put everything she has into getting the shop up and running again in the small seaside community of Cockleberry Bay. But can she do it all on her own?

Story
The first in an exciting historical mystery series set in the home of Agatha Christie. Tucked away among Devon's rolling green hills, Mallowan Hall combines the best of English tradition with the modern conveniences of 1930. Housekeeper Phyllida Bright, as efficient as she is personable, manages the large household with an iron fist in her very elegant glove. In one respect, however, Mallowan Hall stands far apart from other picturesque country houses....

Story
When a teenage girl is found dead in the woods, her body posed like an angel, Stockholm holds its breath. The kill bears a chilling resemblance to those of the Angel Maker, a serial killer caught two decades ago.... One who just died in prison. Detective Inspector Jamie Johansson is taking some much-needed time away from the London Met when the call comes in. Her father, one of Stockholm's most notorious detectives, caught the Angel Maker when she was just a girl, and Jamie has long since closed the door to that part of her life.

Really hard to follow due to names
Reviewed: 13-08-24
Unfortunately the Scandinavian names were so unfamiliar in their sounds I couldn’t follow the story! Also 2 names sounded so similar it was really hard to listen, I’m sure this is better as a book.
Great narrator but knowing no Swedish or Swedish sounds I couldn’t follow the characters :(

So one dimensional ! Disappointing
Reviewed: 26-07-24
I was so disappointed, absolutley no character development, so superficial and considering the length of the book the premise has so much potential but all the characters are so underdeveloped it’s a really story to listen to - there was no investment because I didn’t know anyone.
I’ve read other books and much of it is similar - very convenient things happen all the time, there’s no grit, no realistic sense the the characters, even the protagonist
