Story
Cadia licks its wounds in the wake of the Thirteenth Black Crusade. The heretic forces retreat on all fronts. The day is won. But Lord Castellan Creed cannot rest easy. Something tells him the assault was a mere prelude to something greater, something more final. He is right. Out of the Eye of Terror comes Abaddon the Despoiler, at the head of a warhost unmatched in scale since the dread days of the Horus Heresy. In the face of the looming apocalypse, Creed must weld the champions of Cadia into a bulwark capable of withstanding Abaddon’s fury.

A great modern 40k book
Reviewed: 23-09-24
Would like to start by stating that Devi’s Seddon is well up there on par with the likes of Jonathan Keeble and Toby Longworth.
The book is honestly very enjoyable, it delivers well on a branching war story with plenty of militarum and a decent amount aeronautica action. We get a very nuanced and human perspective of the cast of characters who are mentioned in the lore of the fall of Cadia. There are also some good elements of the more strange aspects of 40k but if it’s a full dive into the horror of 40k outside of war in the materium between Chaos and the Imperium then you’re better off with something more classic like The Eye Of Terror.
All in all it’s a great novel and I highly recommend it.

Story
Gotrek and Felix: unsung heroes of the Empire, or nothing more than common thieves and murderers? The truth perhaps lies somewhere in between, and depends entirely upon whom you ask. When Gotrek and Felix travel north to seek the remaining members of the Order of the Fiery Heart, they find themselves with new companions and allegiances. Of course, they have heard the rumours of beastmen lurking in the Drakwald, but there is far more to the story than they could have imagined.

Shaman slayer is a true return to form G&F novel. I believe it to be Longs best addition to the story so far. I’m not sure any G&F book will ever top Skaven Slayer but this book really brings back the feeling of previous books.

Much better than the reviews would have you believe

So after listening to the book the whole way through, I can honestly say that this book is good! It’s a more character driven story than some of the other books which is fine for me because I find the characters as interesting as the situations they are in. The action is visceral and brutal when it happens. Let’s talk about the narration. A lot of people here don’t like it because it isn’t Toby, but Mr Stewart is far far better than the last guy we had for salvations reach which was truly difficult to listen to. I would have much preferred Stewart over that Scottish guy and as a Scot myself, fuck me that was awful. We have been spoiled by Mr Longworth’s stellar narrations but Stewart is an equally skilled orator in my humble Opinion. His take on some characters can be quite off from what we have gotten used to but he is taking them seriously as characters. I think that a lot of listeners are still quite pissed of from the awful narration we had for salvations reach and so are skating Stewart very unfairly. It’s a good listen with a good narrator so definitely don’t be put off from picking it up. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Story
The Ghosts of the Tanith First-and-Only have been away from the front line for too long. Listless and hungry for action, they are offered a mission that perfectly suits their talents. The objective: the mysterious Salvation's Reach, a remote and impenetrable stronghold concealing secrets that could change the course of the Sabbat Worlds campaign.

Well this book turned out to be very very good.
Like many i was apprehensive about the idea of Nathan Long writing instead of William King, but the quality of the story really surprised me. Long has picked up where King left off very well.
I will say though that the large gab between years is rather jarring, where is Max? Snorry? What happened with the Chaos invasion into the Empire? Perhaps some of these things are answered in other WH books and maybe there are other GF books outside of the slayer series which cover these events. I don’t know.
Despite this, Long captures the spirit of WH elegantly. It’s witty, smart and dark.
My favourite thing about this book is the way in which Long explores the character of Gotric more in depth, I feel like we learn a lot more about him as a dwarf than we ever really did with Kings books. He feels more like an actual character with nuance and depth rather than simply a mad berserker. Unfortunately felix’s character is somewhat sidelined in this story, he feels very much like a side character despite the story being told from his perspective, he seems to have less agency in this story, but that is understandable in this book due to it being essentially a dive into dwarven culture. There are some aspects of the relationship between Gotric and Felix which I think are off beat, there seems to be less camaraderie between them than there was before, which doesn’t make a lot of sense seeing as how long they have been together.
However, over all I think that Orcslayer stands up as one of the best in the series. I enjoyed it almost as much as Skavenslayer which is still my favourite in the series.
All in all, don’t be discouraged. It’s well worth a listen.
Enjoy x

I liked the main characters
I liked the premise of a power system experiencing a power vacuum post war.
I liked the character development between Elisa and Leonidas, the side characters on the crew are fairly one dimensional but some of the side characters out with the crew are interesting. The writing is witty and funny a lot of the time but not in a way that detracts from the story, more so it adds to it since the story is mostly being told from the perspective of Elisa the captain of the ship who has a crude and sometimes infantile sense of humour. This may sound unappealing but it’s written very well with a lot of wit so the jokes aren’t trying to be funny most of the time. They just are. There’s some good action in here and a reasonably interesting universe within the scope of a generic sci fi setting.
Worth a listen

Story
The war with the Tahni has dragged on for over two years, taking its toll on the lives of all involved. On the Aphrodite colony, Marine turned cybernetic commando Ryan Hendrix is readying his civilian militia to make one final strike against the enemy, in what they know could be a suicide mission. Back in Commonwealth space, Travis Miller and his task force have finally been given clearance to take back the occupied colony system, but the Tahni have had a year to prepare their defenses and the price in blood will be dear.

Human Supremacy
Reviewed: 11-08-23
This series is a great piece of human jingoism . As a dedicated human supremacist I approve of the content of this series. Humanity is the master race of this universe and our manifest destiny to conquer the stars will not be stopped. As far as a military sci fi goes I would say this series is fairly well thought out to give a level of authenticity. It’s also fairly dark. The cold calculus of war is ever present so expect a lot of our brave human warriors to die but you can expect them to punish the alien scum for their hubris. The action sequences are believable and exciting and I think that the books have a good balance between fleet combat, fighter combat and infantry combat. All of the fun stuff.
My one gripe is the fact that the bigger picture of the story is not explored. But there may be more books to follow which dice into this. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a good space war story.
Humanity first! Now and forever!

The highlight of the book is definitely the story of Dalin Kreed being thrust into the meat grinder of war, separated from his parent regiment of the Tanith 1st. Experiencing the absolute worst that war in this time can offer, his first ever operation.
