Story
Frankie has lived a long life and her small London flat is crammed full of art, furniture and memories. Damian, her young Irish carer, listens as she gradually tells him parts of her story - a story that takes us into a progressive, daring world of New York artists on the brink of fame, aspiring writers and larger-than-life characters.

An easy listen
Reviewed: 29-10-24
An easy listen with Graham Norton's characteristic wit, warmth and keen eye for fashion. His knowledge of Cork, London and NY translate to credible scenes and characters but often somewhat clichéd and exaggerated. The story line wove moments in history and a coming of age tale together in a pretty predictable and superficial way. The narrative tone didn't vary much, despite moving from love to death and everything in between. Overall a bit disappointing, but I'll probably still listen to his next one!

Story
Speak, Memory, first published in 1951 as Conclusive Evidence and then assiduously revised in 1966, is an elegant and rich evocation of Nabokov’s life and times, even as it offers incisive insights into his major works, including Lolita, Pnin, Despair, The Gift, The Real Life of Sebastian Knight, and The Luhzin Defense.

Narrative can drag, descriptive passages excellent. Self indulgent but beautifully written.

As title suggests, writing is wonderfully Nabokovian, inventive, acrobatic and wonderfully innovative prose. The narration is unremarkable: it is precise and well suited to the source material, but feels perfunctory. This title is a must listen for Nabokov fanatics but a hard slog and some parts felt like a hard slog. Better to spend an Audible credit on Pale Fire, Pnin or Lolita than this.

Story
The new jaw-achingly funny novel from David Walliams, the number-one best-selling author! Make your appointment if you dare…. Darkness had come to the town. Strange things were happening in the dead of night. Children would put a tooth under their pillow for the tooth fairy, but in the morning they would wake up to find… a dead slug; a live spider; hundreds of earwigs creeping and crawling beneath their pillow. Evil was at work. But who or what was behind it…? Listen to this book and find out!

Story
Joe has a lot of reasons to be happy. About a billion of them, in fact. You see, Joe's rich. Really, really rich. Joe's got his own bowling alley, his own cinema, even his own butler who is also an orangutan. He's the wealthiest 12-year-old in the land. But Joe isn't happy. Why not? Because he's got a billion pounds...and not a single friend. But then someone comes along, someone who likes Joe for Joe, not for his money. The problem is, Joe's about to learn that when money is involved, nothing is what it seems.
