Story
Ida Pederson was an executive at ‘Nyberg Shoreline’ when she was sent to the small Northern Irish village of Port Kriel to diffuse tensions between the company and the local community. When an unexploded bomb was identified on the seabed near Nyberg’s windfarm, Ida sent a local crew of eight men to investigate. That night, only two men returned home, barely alive and unable to speak of what had happened out at sea.

A very compelling and gripping story. Very well performed and atmospheric. A slight negative - it was sometimes difficult to hear what was being said when they were whispering against the background sounds. Would recommend.

Story
The year 1894. The monstrous Hound of the Baskervilles has been dead for five years, along with its no less monstrous owner, the naturalist Jack Stapleton. Sir Henry Baskerville is living contentedly at Baskerville Hall with his new wife, Audrey, and their three-year-old son, Harry. Until, that is, Audrey’s lifeless body is found on the moors, drained of blood. It would appear some fiendish creature is once more at large on Dartmoor and has, like its predecessor, targeted the unfortunate Baskerville family.

Read Hound of Baskervilles first
Reviewed: 30-12-24
Another good story with the usual twists, turns and red herrings found in all Sherlock Holmes' books. It is a follow-un from the Hound of the Baskervilles, and seeing that it describes much of what went on in that book, I'd advise anyone to read the Hound of the Baskervilles first.

Story
It is 1890, and in the days before Christmas, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson are visited at Baker Street by a new client. Eve Allerthorpe, eldest daughter of a grand but somewhat eccentric Yorkshire-based dynasty, is greatly distressed, as she believes she is being haunted by a demonic Christmas spirit. Her late mother told her terrifying tales of the sinister Black Thurrick, and Eve is sure that she has seen the creature from her bedroom window. What is more, she has begun to receive mysterious parcels of birch twigs, the Black Thurrick’s calling card.

As good as Conan Doyle

An excellently crafted and enjoyable story with a multitude of twists, turns and red herrings. My only complaints are in the narration. From the very start I was distracted by the so-called 'Yorkshire ' accents which sounded remarkably Irish, and the serving staff's accents differed little from those of the aristocrats. Also, there were a few Americanisms that were out of place. I'm not sure if the author or the narrator was actually American??

Story
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

What an intriguing story. Full of twists and turns, resulting in tears at the end. When you think you know what's going on, there comes a twist that is unforseen. For anyone embarking on listening to this book, I'd recommend that they make a written note of the characters in the story, as I wish I'd done, as this will help to establish who's who and their relationships to one another. I loved this book!

What a great book. Loved the story and the occasional surprises. Very well narrated, too. The only negative I have is that the download wasn't working properly. I updated the app but still had issues. I panicked a couple of times when it seemed that I would be unable listen to the whole story. I'm not sure if this is because it is a freebie book?? Would certainly recommend, though.

I'm afraid I found this book too unrealistic. So much happens in an unrealistic amount of time at the start of the story. Having said that, I was still curious to find out the conclusion of this book and so listened until the end.

Story
Caroline Overington's stunning fiction debut is a multi-voiced novel centred around a child's death and its terrible repercussions. In 1982 Victorian police were called to a home on a housing estate an hour west of Melbourne. There, they found a five-year-old boy lying still and silent on the carpet. There were no obvious signs of trauma, but the child, Jacob, died the next day. The story made the headlines, and hundreds attended the funeral. Few people were surprised when the boy's mother and her boyfriend went to prison for the crime.

The culprit is known from the very start of this book so I was wondering how the storyline would progress. It was a very well written story with very good narration. I liked the way that each chapter told the story from different viewpoints and this made it easy to follow the characters. Would recommend.
