Story
The show must go on, as murder, music and mayhem run riot in the night. The Opera House, Ankh-Morpork, is a huge, rambling building, where innocent young sopranos are lured to their destiny by a strangely familiar evil mastermind in a hideously deformed evening dress.

Wonderful story
Reviewed: 21-08-24
I listen to this again and again. It is one of Pratchett’s best in my view. I like the fact that the story is more intense and has more layers because it takes place in a theatre. The witches are magnificently themselves.

Story
It begun as a sudden strange fancy...Polly Perks had to become a boy in a hurry. Cutting off her hair and wearing trousers was easy. Learning to fart and belch in public and walk like an ape took more time. And now she's enlisted in the army and searching for her lost brother. But there's a war on. There's always a war on. And Polly and her fellow recruits are suddenly in the thick of it, without any training, and the enemy is hunting them.

Stunning story and narration

One of Sir Terry’s subtler stories in some ways. More reflective. Brought to life with such talent skill and subtlety by Stephen’s narration.

Narration

The narration detracts from the story for me. Story is everything. Such a shame considering the actors are such high calibre and imaginatively resourceful. In needed much more thought about how to use them.

This is a terrifically paced thriller and a strong basic premise. If it hadn't been littered with a number of mental health half truths and inaccuracies it could have been a challenging read. Accuracy was compromised for pace. The book therefore reinforced popularise views.
