Story
As the fracture lines between nations grow ever wider, how do we relate to each other, to the land on which we live and the world around us? Are we united enough to see protection of the natural environment as a priority? These are the questions Raynor asks herself as she embarks on her most ambitious walk to date with her husband Moth—from the dramatic beauty of the Cape Wrath Trail in the north-west corner of Scotland, to the familiar territory of the South-west Coast Path.

Raynor writes beautifully, they’re such a wonderful couple
Reviewed: 01-02-25
Interesting chronicle of Moth and Raynor’s journey, captured in this work. I enjoyed it, but found myself wondering if I would have preferred the printed version this time. There were references to maps at the end of the recording and I think they’d have helped me with a bit of structure to the travel related parts of this work - I felt a bit ‘lost’ at times during the audio. I’m not a huge fan of author’s narrating their written work (my bad - I didn’t check this before purchasing as I was excited to see another title from Raynor who has a writing style I love). The conversation at the end of this audiobook was wonderful.

Great content but narration not for me
Reviewed: 21-01-25
Fabulous content, even if the ‘hacks’ are, well, tips. Good reminders to look after yourself and how to do this.
However the narration and the guests on the first two episodes are too much presentationally. Drawling, slow and overpowering to the point it overtook the content and I had to concentrate to hear the messages.
I don’t know, but it may have been aimed at being mindful and encouraging a relaxed time when listening but, for me, it delivered anything but. I’m not usually bothered at all by whoever I am listening to so this was a surprise.
Were this delivered just a bit differently, it would have been five stars as the content is spot on.

Too long for the story it is
Reviewed: 18-01-25
I found this boring. It dragged through the first part and then as it moved a bit quicker toward the end the opening experience had left me not caring about the characters or resolution. I think it would be great with a good edit, but at over 10 hours this tale is not there yet.

Absolutely could not put this book down, the best I have read from Peter James yet. So well constructed, a real page turner. As it is Sandy’s story you can read it at any time in the Grace series, not necessarily in order of the Roy Grace novels (although I wouldn’t recommend it as a starting point in this series, it would be better to have some initial backstory from the Roy Grace books).

Story
Some years ago a stash of family records was handed down to Michael Palin, among which were photos of an enigmatic young man in army uniform, as well as photos of the same young man as a teenager looking uncomfortable at family gatherings. This, Michael learnt, was his Great-Uncle Harry, born in 1884, died in 1916. He had previously had no idea that he had a Great-Uncle Harry, much less that his life was cut short at the age of 32 when he was killed in the Battle of the Somme. The discovery both shocked him and made him want to know much more about him.

Thirty years on, he's reported from more than ninety countries for the BBC. In this deeply personal memoir, he reflects on how being black has affected his perspective on the myriad issues he's encountered in reporting some of the biggest stories of our time. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end.

This book is a blueprint for those who may not fit the image of a “traditional” runner—that is, someone who is larger in size, less athletic, out of shape, or dealing with any kind of health issue that slows them down—to feel empowered to lace up their shoes and embrace the body they have right now.

Enjoyed this so much. Martinus shares his tips and journey to being a runner nearer to back of the pack. It celebrates and shines a light on those of us out on the course for longer (or, as I like to say, getting more bang for our entry fee buck!)
Informative, inspiring and packed with helpful details this was a great listen.
Martinus narrates and has a clear, easy to listen style. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I just didn’t feel for the characters, and felt lost in the middle of this book. The start and finish are great and it’s a gripping concept. I think if I’d have bought into the characters more I might have enjoyed it all the way through but I didn’t and it just felt too long. The narration was great.

Story
Imagine your life a year from now. Five years from now. What will it look like? Imagine a life with less: less stuff, less clutter, less stress and debt and discontent - a life with fewer distractions. Now, imagine a life with more: more time, more meaningful relationships, more growth and contribution and contentment - a life of passion, unencumbered by the trappings of the chaotic world around you. What you're imagining is an intentional life. And to get there, you might have to let go of some stuff that's in the way.

Some fabulous tips, a bit too preachy in delivery for me
Reviewed: 28-02-22
There is no doubt there is a lot to prompt thinking and for you to reflect on here, but the delivery is too preachy for me. The section on relationships bear the end - where one of the authors advances a list of traits that contribute to a toxic relationship - is far too linear and simplistic.
So much so, it made me question the validity of the rest of the ideas in the book I had listened to. Would have been a four star book but for this.
