Find out why exercise and willpower can't save us, and what UPF is really doing to our bodies, our health, our weight, and the planet (hint: nothing good).

Have tried for years to improve my diet, but always let myself down by reverting back to, just the odd pack of crisps/takeaway. Which soon escalates to habit. This has been the wake up call to break that habit for good, thank you

Okay saw this was a free giveaway and rushed to download it. It is one of my favorite childhood books,so why wouldn't I?.
Half an hour into it and I am shaking my head in disappointment. muttering "why did I, why did I".
If I had noticed it had been hit with that big old identity politics stick I would of given it a wide berth this is awful.
Please if you feel you need to do this, use original works do not butcher classics.
No I do not recommend this version, and yes I will be double checking any audible freebies in the future :/ prior to downloading

This is a super series read in paperback many years ago, and revisited in audio, And it has indeed stood the test of time,
Please do not let the negative reviews of the narrator put you off, He does take a bit of time to adjust to, and yeah some strange pronunciations, But he does do some nice character voices, very important for narration, His female voices are great and to be honest, I started to find his mispronunciations endearing, gave the narration an "olde worlde" feel. Been through a few 100 audio books over the years and trust me, narrator wise I have listened to a few doozies. Paul Boehmer is not one of them,

Bland narration
Reviewed: 29-08-19
About quarter of the way in and such a struggle, I loved first book but wasn't a fan of the narrator, sadly I feel the same she's not any better I'm sure there's a good story here but narrator is so bland and voices used for characters just awful, finding hard to keep track of the story. It's not that she is awful persay , just doesn't suit the book. Want to try and finish this just not sure my poor ears agree might refund and buy the book .
I have listened to loads of audio books now, and find it hard if narrator is bad or doesn't suit the book, and for me her voice just doesn't fit.
Will try again in few days ...Maybe!

Another gem from Mr Blackmore. Big,bold and bloody. Mr B brings us a gritty tale of a group of mercenaries. If you have enjoyed any of his previous books be sure to check this one out.
Think this is one of his earlier works, and hopefully he has plans on bringing us more from these characters, as one story just ain't enough :). Narration was also top notch breathed life into the motley crew. Thank you for an enjoyable listen

Having loved Peter Newmans Vagrant series. I couldn't wait to give this new one a listen.
It does seem to be, a tad more conventional storywise, than his previous Vagrant series. But the story still sucked me in.
There are, some similarities to his previous books, and once again his wonderful imagination has created some wickedly interesting, beasties and demons who all inhabit his world of Immortals, "The Deathless"
The Deathless reside in skycastles and play caretakers to the rest of humanity who eek out a living in settlements close to the God Road they are reliant upon The Deathless to keep them safe by keeping the demons at bay.
Great start to the series can't wait to see what direction it goes in.
Narration though I did struggle with. General story telling was fine, though there were few times I had to rewind as I didn't find her voice very engaging and had lost track of what was going on, this got better further into the story, guess I was getting used to her. Her character dialect parts were not the best. she made most of the characters sound as though they where whiney which got tedious, or they reminded of Pam Ayres! and that was pretty much how it was for all the characters little to differentiate between them Skyborn = whiney, the rest where Pam.

I don't want to say anything to spoil the plot, but for once the ratings do not lie and a well deserved award winner.
Thank you Mel for the brilliant narration you did Portia justice.

Any additional comments?
Despite it being loved my many. This one, for me has not aged well. I usually enjoy dystopian fiction but this I really disliked. The story was dull, dull, dull the characters very wooden, unlikable and totally unbelievable. Did not think it credible that practically overnight, faced with a food shortage that the majority of the male characters would leave their morals behind and at the drop of a bowler hat, turn into cold blooded killers. Was disturbed by the racism, classism and misogyny, not because I'm easily offended, but worried that may of been how a percentage of 50's Britain thought, Hmm I hope not!. There are some events in the book I found very distasteful. Not so much by the event itself but the attitudes of the characters. I Rolled my eyes at some of the crappy dialogue, and shook my head in disbelief at the books, views on woman, race, and class. A sci-fi classic for most, for me a steaming pile of poo. I made it all the way to the end but It left a nasty taste in my mouth ! If I ever see a paper copy I might buy it just to burn it.

Had so looked forward to this one, but for me it fell flat. No memorable characters, I just didn't give a dam about any of them,a boring story with little action that read like a bad Columbo episode set in future. The story felt rushed characters were under developed and it leaned more on murder mystery then sci fi.
Wil Wheatons narration was mundane there was no variation between character voices they all read the same and there where times during the narration he sounded bored, he could of read a Haynes manual with more emotion.
I remember thinking the story was coming to the end and checked the time remaining, my heart sunk when I saw It still have 2 hours to go.I really just wanted it to conclude and was relieved when the story did end and included a bonus novella. Now this I did enjoy. My advice forget the main story, and fast forward to the novella much more enjoyable with decent narration.
