In response to the White Guardian's warning of great danger, the TARDIS materialises on the heaving deck of an Edwardian racing yacht. But the Doctor soon discovers that this is no ordinary yacht - and no ordinary race. Captain Striker is competing for an unusual prize: 'Enlightenment'. The crew will be lucky to reach port safely. But with such a prize, would they be lucky to win? Steven Pacey reads Barbara Clegg's complete and unabridged novelisation of her own TV adventure, first published by Target Books in 1984.

Totally enjoyed re-living this what came to be tv's Doctor Who's 5th Doctor's final story (as ably played by Peter Davison. Narrated by Peter Davison, the story is gripping and relentlessly grim for the time traveller and his companion Peri, embroiled in the machinations of Gun running and political wrong doings, with a mad phantom of Depth type villain who seeks revenge for his disfigurement. A solid listen which heralds the birth of the 6th incarnation of Dr.Who. 10/10

I highly anticipating this release and was awarded well, impressionist Jon Culshaw excelled in mimicry of the late Jon Pertwee who was The Doctor on screen, The story zipped along at a cracking pace, and Nick Briggs as usual brought the Daleks to nasty life. Great audio recommended.

Having this Dr Who adventure on VHS/DVD i found the teleplay noisy and the story some what disinteresting. But yet again i turn to audibles extensive library of Dr Who tv novelisations and wow i am captivated by the excellence pace of the piece, once again ably told by one time tv companion William Russell, who never seems to make the story dull. adding to his already reknown skill of character impersonation of the 1st doctor, his alien cfeatures are a sound to be believed. The whole story runs along nicely and at over 5hrs plus its advisable to take it in mangable chunks. 10/10.

Being too young to of seen this televised gem (1 week old) i have always wondered what it played out like back then, so i got the book and devoured every printed word. Now available to me in all its audio glory from Audible i sat and listened to this epic adventure..
What a masterpiece of vintage Dr Who even including the Doctor-lite episode 'Misson to the Unknown' aired on my date of birth which sets up the grand plan of the daleks in their quest for universal domination. Bare in mind the tale is 12 episodes long at 25 minutes a piece so i would advise short chunks then comeback to it when time is available to you.
Overall a thrilling adventure that grips you till the devastating outcome and loss of companions are felt. This is Dr who at its famous best. 10/10
