Story
J.B. Morton took over the 'By The Way' column in the Daily Express in 1924 - succeeding his friend D.B. Wyndham-Lewis as Beachcomber - and continued writing it for over 50 years. Anarchic, absurdist and profoundly influential, it had a huge cult following, and paved the way for a great deal of modern humour.

I’m not sure what I was expecting but this wasn’t for me, I actually found it pretty miserable and struggled to finish it. I certainly didn’t find any of it funny and will probably return it, the blurb doesn’t accurately describe the book and while a number of those things are mentioned far more of it is about Her rather depressing childhood and upbringing

This is a cute Hallmark Christmas style story, if you’re looking for anything else this isn’t the book for you. It doesn’t deserve the bad reviews as it’s pretty well marketed and was exactly what I expected, if anything it was better written than I’d feared and I really enjoyed it.

What I am with deeply suspicious of any new Sherlock Holmes story, they are often far to modern and far too long. These stories are perfect and I found myself almost forgetting they had not been written by Conan Doyle, I have already downloaded the others by this author and will start the next one now but I finish this

I wanted to love this as it had all the hallmarks of a great murder mystery, but sadly I just couldn’t finish it. The characters are unlikeable, the plot is extremely thin and while I appreciate that it’s written by a Vicar the huge amount of Bible verse is jarring and dull. There’s so little going on that I felt I was waiting for the story to start long past the half way point, I didn’t finish it as I couldn’t care enough and I’ll be returning it.
