About this listen

A gripping standalone thriller from the Sunday Times No.1 bestselling author of the Logan McRae series.

Beware of the dark…

Welcome to the Misfit Mob – where Police Scotland dumps the officers it can’t get rid of, but wants to. Officers like DC Callum MacGregor, lumbered with all the boring go-nowhere cases. So when an ancient mummy is found at the Oldcastle tip, it’s his job to track down its owner.

But then Callum uncovers links between his mummified corpse and three missing young men, and life starts to get a lot more interesting.

No one expects the Misfit Mob to solve anything, but right now they’re all that stands between a killer’s victims and a slow lingering death. Can they prove everyone wrong before someone else dies?

It's long but stick with it

This is an epic story, which requires you stay with it , at first it seems at bit meh but it gains momentum and turns into a very dark comedy with gruesome sides to keep you on the edge. It's uncomfortable at times in its depiction of child abuse but it's handled well and the plot though complex is very cleverly done. the narrator was excellent and I hope there are more books to come featuring the misfit mob. Highly recommend

What a relief!

Finally a book That gives me full value. A hundred per cent full of words that did not offend! Not a third of the book filled with the F word as so frequently happens with lazy authors. Loved the story too. Am a complete fan now am just about to start on his series of books. Well done .

Omg ! What an amazing book ! The twist at the end!

Absolutely loved this book ! It should be made into a film ! The narrator was excellent too, it did take a few chapters to get me hooked but boy from then on I would walk extras miles ! Even ran listening to it instead of music ! Brilliant writing Welldone S Macbride

Hello Callum

What made the experience of listening to A Dark So Deadly the most enjoyable?

The usual narrator from Steve Macbrides other books. Made it a continuous flow from Logan. The small references to other character should from the previous book was great. I thought l had solved it numerous times but ohh no.

Who was your favorite character and why?

DC macgregor and also Mother.

What about Steve Worsley’s performance did you like?

Fantastic

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Oh yes. I was saving it to listen to on my holidays but could not wait.

Any additional comments?

When is the next one.

Another Great book, well read.

My first non Colin McCray story and I think you won't be disappointed. Lots of smiles and sadness for the main character.

Absolutely amazing

I loved this book, I loved the plot, I loved the characters, I loved the narration, I really appreciated that it was so long, I did not want it to finish.

Steve Worsley's performance was brilliant as always.

If you like the Logan McRae stories, I reckon you'll love this, unless you're a stickler for realism, then perhaps it's one to give a miss, if, like myself, you love it when fiction is, for once, stranger than truth, then give it go.

Long enough to get really immersed in the story.

Great story with enough twists to keep you guessing, and so many characters that you want to hear from again. Perfect for a TV drama. I will be looking at other books read by this narrator too, such a beautiful rich voice to calm you, even when he's reading about someone being eviscerated! One of the very best police investigation dramas I've listened to, and I've listened to a LOT.

A bit OTT!

Complex mystery story spoilt to some extent by MacBride's tendency to overuse caricatures. Would still recommend this book.
