About this listen

Are there any genuinely wild places left in Britain and Ireland? Or have we tarmacked, farmed and built ourselves out of wildness?

In his vital, bewitching, inspiring classic, Robert Macfarlane sets out in search of the wildness that remains.

I can tell my discovery will cost me a lot of money in new books.

Lovely

Beautiful written & wonderfully evocative. I really enjoyed getting lost in this book! I definitely recommend it to anyone who loves to get away from it all in nature!

Disappointed with change of reader

Not quit as compelling a story as previous works but still a good listen. Disappointed not to have had the excellent Roy McMillan as reader who really bright the previous books alive.

Sensory Delight

I began by being envious of the writers opportunity to explore. I ended by being in awe of and grateful to his ability to describe his experiences, terrific listen.

Fantastic book

I am so moved by this book, especially when mentioned Roger Deakin! The way he uses the English language , the passion he has for the landscape, the physics he owns for the walks..... Thank you for sharing these experiences with us.
Mr Bubb reads so wonderfully that his Macfarlane sound like voice encapsulated me from the first word.

early MacFarlane

he really found his feet with this book I think there are a couple of details I've heard reiterated in the old ways or another book but when you have the lust for questing a couple of details are not the issue I feel that in this book more than mountains of the mind really anchors his style because it's the pae (point adventure explain) he really gets down it flows really nicely so glad it's been uploaded to the library only slight quibble is it's not read by Roy McMillan as he is in my mind the voice of MacFarlane

A beautiful reminder of nature on your doorstep

Beautiful language detailing some of the UKs wildest places but an important and timely reminder of the nature on our doorstep and it's significance in our everyday lives. Loved it!

Inspiring journey into wild places

Beautiful descriptions of explorations through wild places in Britain, Ireland and that of the mind. Delightful storytelling to boot and an introduction to geography, climate, science and history.

I wish I could learn the author's tolerance for cold weather and water and his almost complete lack of the urge of self preservation.
