Quintesential cyberpunk

The story is fun and interesting, eliciting a bit of nostalgia for the hay days of 80s Sci Fi. It continues the themes of neuromamcer and takes them in new exciting direction. I also very much enjoyed the performance of the narrator who has a pleasant voice and seemed to capture the differences in diction among characters well.

This book was fascinating and disappointing at the same time. Also, I kept falling asleep every few minutes, which has not happend to me with any other audio book. I liked Paul Boehmer, the reader, who has a pleasant voice and does a good job here. I read books from Greg Egan before and I liked the combination of interesting stories and very hard science fiction. In this book, however, there was utterly too much reliance on science (science known to us, that aliens are trying to figure out, which isn't so interesting to sustain the whole book), while the few story threads, that had me initially interested, never went anywhere. This book has entire chapters just about people figuring out science or developing mathematical formulas, which would be great if it was coupled with a compelling story, but in the end it was just that. The book does present some fascinating concepts and the story seemed promising at first, but it left me disappointed and frustrated, especially as I can easily imagine a satisfying conclusion, and was actually curious about the conclusion, but it never happened.
