Story
Daniel Martin has never forgotten his childhood encounters with Frank Watkins, the man who built his family a summer home out of cardboard and plywood. Frank's gaze was oddly confusing, as if he was attempting to discern the proper way to behave because he didn't know how to respond in a human manner. Since Frank obviously wasn't an alien, young Daniel thought maybe the man was crazy. In the end, Daniel would learn the terrifying truth about Frank Watkins. And as an adult, Daniel is about to discover there are more of them out there.

Intriguing characters, great atmosphere of theater and a city, though the mystery itself is not great, the conclusion is satisfying. I will be reading (listening) more of this author. The reading is excellent.

Lovecraftian horror and witchcraft
Reviewed: 07-05-23
This is the first novel I have read by Barron. I have sampled his short work and found it to be rich and horrific (as intended). The book might seem disjointed at the beginning, but comes full circle. The language is beautiful and the story is scary. The reading is slightly disappointing. When trying to impersonate evil voices and those of other than the main characters, the narrator goes shrill.

More than a thriller usually is, this book is illuminated by characters and their internal demons - big and small. I would have liked more information about the villain and it seems the author just skipped that part.
