A Very Near Future
Although seemed like a work of fiction, George Orwell must have seen the future. A haunting and terrifying tale, beautifully written & narrated. The last sentence of the book sent a chill down my spine.

very dark and dystopian
I doubt in 1984 people could relate to it but in 2020 with our phones listening and tracking us, it seems George Orwell did a great prophetic job.
the reason for 4 stars is cause it's just a narration of a dystopian future on and on and on. after sometime it was like ok i get it, can there be some drama. there was a little drama when Winston met Julia but it hardly felt something will happen. just kept the same darkness and monotone (not narration but story) all the way to the end.

now I know I'm not the first to wonder this, but this piece of fiction for 1950 seems oddly familiar from some news I've seen recently... Incredible writing and a ridiculous political philosophy explained so beautifully.

Still relevant
Though it was written in late 1940s, it is still relevant. The book echoes the objectionable practices discriminatory policies pursued by various government across the world.A must read to understand the psyche of governments (whether democratic, communist, dictatorial) across the world.

1984 - Captivating storyline
The narrator had done a great job in keeping us captivated. The story seems very relevant for the current day when every movement of ours can be tracked and where we are just one crazy authoritarian government away from turning our world into the fictionalized world of 1984.

Brilliant and insightful. A great book narrated superbly.
The corrupting aspects of power that have lead to dystopian states throughout history and really makes you wonder if humans can ever govern communities successfully, peacefully and lovingly. All lovers of Noam Chomsky will love this book.

Mind bloggling, intriguing!
double plus good 😉.. Makes you think unimaginable possibilities of social situations world could get into. It challenges what we consider fundamental nature of humans, societies and governments. Definitely something everyone must read and learn to cherish the freedom we live in.

Timeless! As relevant today as after World War 2
1984 takes Totalitarianism to its deepest and kills any hope of resurgence in such situations. It is a great description of where things may go if we are not careful.
