About this listen
The Mongol army led by Genghis Khan subjugated more lands and people in 25 years than the Romans did in 400. In nearly every country the Mongols conquered, they brought an unprecedented rise in cultural communication, expanded trade, and a blossoming of civilization.
Vastly more progressive than his European or Asian counterparts, Genghis Khan abolished torture, granted universal religious freedom, and smashed feudal systems of aristocratic privilege. From the story of his rise through the tribal culture to the explosion of civilization that the Mongol Empire unleashed, this brilliant work of revisionist history is nothing less than the epic story of how the modern world was made.

Masters of Doom is the amazing true story of the Lennon and McCartney of video games: John Carmack and John Romero. Together, they ruled big business. They transformed popular culture. And they provoked a national controversy. More than anything, they lived a unique and rollicking American Dream, escaping the broken homes of their youth to produce the most notoriously successful game franchises in history - Doom and Quake - until the games they made tore them apart. This is a story of friendship and betrayal, commerce and artistry.

Story
In the spring of 1839, Britain invaded Afghanistan for the first time. Nearly 20,000 British and East India Company troops poured through the high mountain passes and re-established on the throne Shah Shuja ul-Mulk. On the way in, the British faced little resistance. But after two years of occupation, the Afghan people rose in answer to the call for jihad and the country exploded into violent rebellion. The First Anglo-Afghan War ended in Britain's greatest military humiliation of the 19th century.

Story
For centuries, fame and fortune was to be found in the west—in the New World of the Americas. Today, it is the east which calls out to those in search of adventure and riches. The region stretching from eastern Europe and sweeping right across Central Asia deep into China and India, is taking centre stage in international politics, commerce and culture—and is shaping the modern world. This region, the true centre of the earth, is obscure to many in the English-speaking world. Yet this is where civilization itself began, where the world’s great religions were born and took root.

Story
Here Durant tells the whole story of Greece from the days of Crete's vast Aegean empire to the final extirpation of the last remnants of Greek liberty, crushed under the heel of an implacably forward-marching Rome. The dry minutiae of battles and sieges, of tortuous statecraft of tyrant and king, get minor emphasis in what is preeminently a vivid recreation of Greek culture, brought to the listener through the medium of supple, vigorous prose.

fascinating point of view on this specific ancient history
The ancient history of the silk roads, trade and culture crossing borders has always fascinated me. I greatly appreciate a historical perspective that does not centred on Europe or Americas but from a much more ancient civilization (or legend) and how it came to be and where it is now, which lends a surprising insight to our modern history.
The narrators did a wonderful job delivering the chapters as vivid as it can be. It's very likely I'll also buy the book to read it again.
there are moments or in some accounts which may seem biased depending on which camp you might be, and may require a pause to consider it a fact or myth.
Other books relevant to this as a follow up read would be The Silk Roads: A New History of the World
Book by Peter Frankopan. it was so good that we decided to visit Uzbekistan immediately that same year.
Another one would be The Great Moghuls by Bamber Gascoigne, may not be the most sophisticated writing but it could connect the dots for some parts of the historical figures.

Very informative but with some inaccuracies.
The audiobook was quite reverting and informative. But there are some inaccuracies with regard to invasion of India. The general understanding is that India comprises the land beyond the Indus River. But history reveals that he came only up the River Indus while chasing a Sultan Prince but did not persist further. As such he never conquered the mainland India. Though it is said that his descendants made many unsuccessful attempts against the Sultanate of Delhi but were repulsed back after suffering many casualties.
