Delaware County paid $500,000 to have several gigabytes of data released and restored to county servers. The DoppelPaymer ransomware attack was launched two months after a successful phishing attack allowed the criminals to access and explore the county network.
Tillamook County was unable to avoid paying a ransom when a Russian hacking gang successfully encrypted the county’s data backups as part of a ransomware attack. The county negotiated a $300,000 payment to the criminals.
The City of Stuart used data backups to recover from an attack that encrypted most city operations, including the police department. Although the city avoided paying a ransom, it took more than six weeks to recover, and the police lost digital evidence critical to the prosecution of several cases.
