This programme is aimed at highly promising PhD students who have completed their coursework and are in the dissertation stage of their studies in economics, finance, statistics, mathematics or another related field.
About Ivan Jaccard
The summer research graduate programme honours Ivan Jaccard, who worked at the ECB from 2008 until his passing in 2024. Ivan was passionate about economic research and its role in influencing economic policy. He was dedicated to mentoring junior colleagues and summer graduates.

Research graduates will have the opportunity to visit the ECB’s Directorate General Research for three months during the summer, carry out research and learn about the day-to-day work of the Directorate General.

Tasks
In particular, the participants in this programme are expected to contribute to the work of the Directorate General as follows:
- carry out research on a topic of relevance for the ECB (as outlined in the research proposal submitted when applying for the programme), under the supervision of a senior economist in the Directorate General;
- present the results of this research in a seminar at the end of the visit;
- interact with economists in the Directorate General and from across the ECB;
- become familiar with the working environment in the Directorate General and, more generally, with the ECB and its policy challenges.
