CPDP - Data Protection Day: A new mandate for data protection

The Council of Europe (CoE), CPDP Conferences and the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) invite you to celebrate the Data Protection Day with a special edition of CPDP, taking place on 28th January 2025 in the European Commission’s “Charlemagne’’ building, Brussels, Belgium and online. The event will focus on the evolving mandate of data protection, particularly its essential role as safeguard of our democratic society against excessive intrusions in the citizens’ privacy by public or private actors.

Seminar: Towards a Digital Clearinghouse 2.0

On 24 October 2024, the EDPS organises a seminar to discuss with relevant stakeholders the concept note: “Towards a Digital Clearinghouse 2.0”. With this event, the EDPS aims to help shape the debate about the future of digital governance and effective enforcement in the digital world, by discussing the future of cross-regulatory cooperation and addressing the current governance fragmentation, both at European and national level.

Consent or Pay: How can the single market and fundamental rights work together?

‘Consent or Pay’ has dominated headlines in the past few months as the world has eagerly anticipated the EDPB’s opinion on ‘Consent or Pay’ models implemented by Large Online Platforms. It was often said that, should the model have been accepted, the internet as we know it would have changed. Civil societies have highlighted that if ‘Consent or Pay’ would be permitted, it would not be limited to news pages or social networks but would be employed by any industry sector with an ability to monetise personal data via consent.
