Happy Europe Day!
I am happy to be here with you today to celebrate Europe Day.
After two long years, we can finaly meet freely at events to greet each other, hug friends and relatives.
The festivities this year are however shadowed by what happens in the neighbour country, by the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
It is difficult to celebrate when you know that there are innocent people killed next door, millions of people who had to leave their homes.
I’d like to use this opportunity to thank people of the Republic of Moldova for their solidarity, generosity and kindness, when opening their hearts and houses to the refugees from Ukraine.
These qualities make all us one family, make us Europeans.
And this is what we celebrate today.
The Ambassadors of EU Member States are here to show support and unity for the Republic of Moldova.
To show that during difficult times the EU is getting closer and stays a trustful partner.
I would like also to welcome the Ambassador of Ukraine (Marko SHEVCHENKO) to the Republic of Moldova, here on stage with us: dear Ambassador, the European Union stands with Ukraine.
The Europe Day this year has a special significance – the Republic of Moldova materialized its European aspirations by submitting the accession letter.
It has already answered the EU Commission’s questionnaires, and it is now for the Commission to formulate its opinion.
It is not an easy process, but it has started and we are all here to work side by side, to help Moldova on its European path.
We are together with the Republic of Moldova, because together we are stronger! Împreună suntem mai puternici!
La mulți ani Europa! La mulți ani împreună!
