The common fisheries policy (CFP) is one of the EU’s most integrated policies. Its aim is to make sure that fisheries are managed sustainably. The preservation of fisheries resources and the marine environment must go hand in hand with both socio-economic balance for communities in coastal regions and the EU’s food security.

We in the Committee on Fisheries keep this in the forefront of our minds in our daily work. Our priorities for this 10th legislative term will be to consolidate the successes of the Common Fisheries Policy and to promote the long-term sustainability of the marine environment and fish stocks, as well as of fisheries-related industries and coastal communities.
The adoption or renewal of a series of sustainable fisheries partnership agreements will ensure our CFP is more widely recognised at international level as a global benchmark for sustainable fisheries and strengthen efforts to tackle illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing at global level.
We believe that keeping EU citizens properly informed about the policy-making process can only help us to make better decisions.
I am sure that this website will prove useful in giving citizens a clearer picture of our day-to-day activities.
