Welcome message from the Chair
Ms Angelika Niebler taking office as newly elected Chair of the Delegation for relations with India on 1 October 2024.
Dear Members, dear friends and partners,
As the Chair of the European Parliament's Delegation for relations with India I would like to welcome your interest for our work.
The Delegation's mission is to bring the European Union and India closer. Geopolitics, economics, climate change push Europe and India to work together for the benefit of citizens on both sides.
Today, two decades since the establishment of the strategic partnership between the EU and India, the common agenda is richer than ever. There are ongoing trade negotiations, a Trade and Technology Council, growing cooperation in the fields of green transition and digital transformation. Foreign affairs topics are rightly increasingly discussed and democracy and human rights continue to be an integral part of the partnership.
The challenge that lies ahead of us in the years to come is for this cooperation agenda to result in tangible advances for the prosperity and security of Europe and India.
Together with my colleagues in the Delegation, I will restlessly support and contribute to this work. We will do so through our dialogue with the Indian Parliament, using the tools of parliamentary diplomacy. We will also do so through the regular exchanges on different key aspects of these relations, in cooperation with other bodies, EU institutions and Member States.
I therefore invite you to closely follow our activities!
Angelika Niebler
In order to facilitate a swift start into the new legislative term, the Parliament has prepared for the new Members a series of brochures providing a detailed information on the EP's role in the external policies of the EU as well as the work of parliamentary standing delegations.
