6.7. Implementation of Article 10 of the United Nations Firearms Protocol and establishing export authorisation, import and transit measures for firearms, their parts and components and ammunition (A7-0157/2011 - Salvatore Iacolino)
Salvatore Iacolino (PPE). – (IT) Mr President, mine will be a very brief speech. Lower costs for small and medium-sized enterprises in the industry; simplification and lower administrative costs, along with clear, lean procedures for the export of firearms for civil use; greater cooperation with third countries; high safety standards; an effective campaign against trafficking in firearms; and greater traceability of firearms.
In an ever expanding industry, this is a concrete response, at first reading, to, among other things, the tragic events that took place in Norway. These safety standards will affect tens of thousands of sportspeople and leisure enthusiasts.
I would like to thank the shadow rapporteurs, the Committee on International Trade, the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, the secretariat and, of course, the Hungarian and the Polish Presidencies.
