Consumer product safety - Market surveillance of products - Protection of consumers in utilities services (debate)
Michael Cashman (S&D). - Mr President, it is not a point of order, it is actually a statement as Chair of the Conference of Delegation Chairs, and I would like the House’s attention, if I may.
Last week the Conference of Presidents approved modifications to the rules for inter-parliamentary delegations. These rules were approved following a sham of a procedure during which the Conference of Presidents was ill advised and misguided. The recommendations and proposals made by the Conference of Delegation Chairs were completely ignored, despite our first-hand experience and political expertise. Also, I point out that we implemented drastic financial cuts.
Unfortunately, the decision taken by the Conference of Presidents reflects a lack of consideration and a lack of respect for the work that has been undertaken by the Delegation Chairs. I have therefore come to the decision to resign as Chair of the Conference of Delegation Chairs as it has been made impossible to seriously undertake such a position.
Furthermore, Mr President, this does not reflect on the support that you have given me and the Conference of Delegation Chairs. There is not much time left for this mandate, but I cannot remain as Chair and tacitly endorse what I believe to be a reckless approach taken towards the future work of our external delegations.
