There are rumours that the Commission would like to transfer responsibility for water management from the Directorate-General for the Environment to a directorate-general also responsible for the energy industry.

1. Is consideration being given to such a change?

2. From the Commission’s point of view, which matters more in relation to water: health and environmental aspects or economic considerations?

3. Can the Commission give an assurance that responsibility for water will not be transferred?
