Question for written answer E-001124/2024
to the Commission
Rule 138
France Jamet (ID), Jean-Paul Garraud (ID), Marie Dauchy (ID), Aurélia Beigneux (ID), Eric Minardi (ID), Gilles Lebreton (ID)
On 13 February 2023, the Commission authorised the French government to allocate EUR 2.08 billion, spread over 20 years, to a floating industrial wind farm project in southern Brittany. The project aims to build a park of 20 floating wind turbines (to be expanded to 60).
In this context, we would like the Commission to answer the following questions:
- 1.Can the Commission provide a reference to an environmental and economic impact assessment confirming that the project respects the environment, the energy input and the limitation of undesirable effects on our traditional maritime professions?
- 2.On what specific criteria did the Commission base its decision to choose this wind energy project rather than support the development of, for example, a nuclear project, and to authorise the granting of State aid?
- 3.What steps does the Commission intend to take to ensure that future offshore renewable energy projects, including the planned wind energy programme, fully comply with the requirements of EU law on environmental protection and public consultation?
