The European Parliament Legal Affairs Committee (JURI) and Petition Committee (PETI) are co-organising with the Legislative Dialogue Unit of the Directorate for National Parliaments an Interparliamentary Committee Meeting on the theme "Empowering Parliaments and enforcing citizen's rights in the implementation and application of Union law". The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, 27 November 2018, from 09.00-12.30 and 14.30 to 18.30 at the European Parliament in Brussels in the meeting room JAN 6Q2.

With this one-day event, Members of the national Parliaments of the EU Member States will have a unique opportunity to exchange views and best practices with Members of the European Parliament, the representatives of the EU institutions, EU Ombudsman, national Ombudsmen, academics and civil society representatives, on a topic which combines competences at all levels of governance in the EU.

The meeting is structured around three panels and will tackle the issues of the transposition and implementation of EU law at national level, and the important role of Ombudsmen and petitions as instruments to detect the breaches of Union law.
