On the 10th of December, the International Human Rights Day, the European Parliament had the pleasure to open a new exhibition to the public - Andrei Sakharov: Scientist, Dissident, Human Rights Activist.

Dedicated to the man behind the Sakharov Prize for freedom of thought, the exhibition is hosted in the Parlamentarium, the European Palriament's visitor centre in Brussels, and is on display until 31st of March 2022.

The exhibition features significant moments in the life of Andrei Sakharov through various exhibits and multimedia outlets. One of the central features of the exhibition is a bronze bust of Andrei Sakharov, created by Scottish sculptor and art historian Dr. Colin Campbell. The sculpture was loaned to the European Parliament by Marina Sakharov-Liberman, Andrei Sakahrov's granddaughter, who paid a personal visit to the Parliament on the occasion. Ms Sakharov-Liberman had been aware of the existence of the bronze for a few years, but only recently was able to locate the sculpture and its maker. During her visit, Ms Sakharov-Liberman met with Vice-president Heidi Hautala, in charge of the Sakharov Network in the European Parliament.
