Tips and tricks to help you find cheap flights from Birmingham to Faro
Useful information about the flight from Birmingham to Faro
Faro's magnetism
Faro can be found on the southern coast of Portugal. It is the main hub for travellers visiting the Algarve region as the city has an international airport, a large port and a railway station. There is plenty to see in Faro itself, however, from the walled, Medieval old town to the pretty marina and a colourful, pedestrian shopping street. The easy-going atmosphere and friendly local people make a stay in Faro a wonderful experience.
What is the best time to travel to Faro?
The climate in this part of Portugal makes Faro a year round destination. The summers are hot and sunny with temperatures settling between 27° and 35°C, and the winters are mild with the mercury rarely dipping below 8°C. July and August can be busy with visitors from all over Europe heading to the area's long, sandy beaches, so for a quieter holiday choose a time outside of these months.
Faro has a lively festival programme in the summer months and one of the best lasts for an incredible two weeks starting around the 7th of September. This festival celebrates the date Faro was given its city status and there are parties, exhibitions, music and dancing arranged as part of the fun. Around the middle of July, the Faro International Motorcycle Rally attracts people from far and wide who bring their vehicles to show off and compare.
Is Faro expensive to visit?
Most things in Faro are cheaper than they are in the UK. Enjoying a meal out is less expensive, and grocery shopping costs a little less especially when goods are bought from the market.
How easy is it to travel around Faro and how much is accommodation?
Most visitors to the area tend to hire a car to give them complete freedom. There is a care hire centre at the airport - if travelling in the summer it is best to reserve a car well in advance to avoid disappointment. There are two buses running between the airport and the city, the number 14 and number 16. Each takes about 15 minutes and the fare is roughly EUR 2.50. Taxis are on hand too and they cost around EUR 16, with fares increasing after 9pm.
In Faro itself there is an extensive public transport system, with fares costing as little as EUR 1 for a single journey. Day passes are approximately EUR 5.60. Taxis cost around EUR 3 plus 50 cents per kilometre - the price does rise after 9pm each day and at weekends. They can also charge more for carrying luggage.
There are some very reasonably priced rooms to be found in Faro with shared budget accommodation costing around EUR 12 a night. A night in a hotel in the peak season is priced at roughly EUR 40 per person. As the area is very popular in the height of summer, booking a room in advance is recommended.
