Tips and tricks to help you find cheap flights from Birmingham to Majorca
Useful information about the flight from Birmingham to Majorca
Stylish capital of Majorca
Palma de Mallorca offers golden sands by day and a lively restaurant and club scene by night. With its Gothic cathedral, tree lined promenades, art galleries and old Arab Quarter, it also has no shortage of cultural attractions, making it a great all round holiday destination.
When to go
Although Palma de Mallorca is an attractive place to visit throughout the year, it can be extremely hot in the summer months, while winters can be surprisingly cold, with snow sometimes falling in December and January. The highlight of the winter is the Festa de Sant Sebastiá on 19-20th January, which pays tribute to the town's patron saint with music and parades. Likewise, Easter is celebrated in style with the Semana Santa processions. May sess the start of the swimming season, but visitors with a taste for noisy entertainment might want to time their trip to coincide with the night of 23rd June, the "Nit de Foc" (Night of Fire ), a riotous festival of bonfires, fireworks and concerts that goes on into the small hours.
Things to know
The main languages in Palma de Mallorca are Spanish and Catalan, but English is also widely spoken in shops, hotels and restaurants. Eating out and other daily expenses are generally cheaper than they are in London. Clocks in Majorca are set one hour ahead of the UK.
Arriving and getting around
The 5 mile journey from the airport into the city centre costs approximately 30EUR by taxi, but for roughly a tenth of the price visitors can catch Bus 1, which runs into the city every 15 minutes. For those wishing to drive themselves, car hire is relatively inexpensive, and a range of rental options are available at the airport. Most of Palma de Mallorca's sights can be comfortably explored on foot, but the town also has a well developed bus and metro network, which represents much better value than the local taxis. Head to Plaza de Espana for connections to other parts of the island. Hopping on a hired bicycle is another affordable and enjoyable way of discovering the town and its surroundings.
Hotels rates in the capital start at around 50EUR per person/night, and expect to pay in the region of from 20EUR per person/night to stay in a hostel or b&b. Prices are higher during the peak season from July to September.
