Tips and tricks to help you find cheap flights from Glasgow to Majorca
Useful information about the flight from Glasgow to Majorca
Laid back sunny island capital
Palma de Mallorca is a relaxed, vibrant city with abundant cafes and restaurants and many beaches nearby. The abundance of contemporary shops combines with the historic centre of the capital of the Balearic Islands to provide a fascinating holiday destination.
Best of Mallorca
Palma de Mallorca is warm all year round, with the bathing season beginning in May. There are particularly hot temperatures in the summer months. While there is snow sometimes in December and January, winters are generally forgiving. In January the city's patron saint, Saint Sebastian, is celebrated with a spectacular music festival. Visitors will find that all of Palma de Mallorca's festivals are unforgettable, including the Night of Fire in June, with fireworks and live music all through the night. At Easter each year there are colourful processions throughout the city.
What to expect
Palma de Mallorca isn't an expensive city. Food bought in markets and meals in restaurants and cafes is much cheaper than in London. Local people speak both Spanish and Catalan, and due to many years of visiting tourists, English is now also widely spoken in Palma de Mallorca. The currency is the euro and the time in Mallorca is an hour ahead of Great Britain (GMT +1).
Arrival, accommodation and transport
Arriving at the airport, travellers will find it is simple to travel the nine kilometres to the city centre. Buses on EMT's Line 1 run every 15 minutes and a ticket costs about EUR 3 per person. Taxis are easy to find at the airport and cost about EUR 30 to the city centre. A wide choice of car hire is available at the airport. Hotel accommodation in Palma de Mallorca is plentiful at all prices, starting at about EUR 50 per person per night. Rooms in hostels and in bed and breakfast accommodation are much cheaper, being available from roughly EUR 20 per person per night. Much of Palma de Mallorca is best explored on foot because of its compact size, however bicycles are available to hire at cheap rates. Palma de Mallorca has a well developed bus and metro service. From the city's Plaza de Espana buses and trains run to the rest of the island. Taxis in the city are readily available, but more expensive.
