Tips and tricks to help you find cheap flights from Leeds to Malaga
Useful information about the flight from Leeds to Malaga
The cultural hub of the Costa Del Sol
Malaga is a vibrant and progressive modern city on the Mediterranean. For many visitors it is the access point for the beaches and resorts of the Costa Del Sol, but Malaga is also a rewarding destination for travellers who enjoy innovative galleries, fascinating museums and some of the most atmospheric streets and squares in Andalucia.
The sun-soaked city
Thanks to the benign sea breezes, the heat in Malaga is never quite as oppressive as it gets in inland Andalucia, although temperatures soar in July and August, when the city can also get very busy with tourists. In December and January, Malaga can be wet and cold, although the Three Kings procession on 6 January is a highlight of the calendar. Malaga's local fiesta lasts a lively 9 days in late August, with fireworks, a funfair and street parties.
Travellers' tips for a relaxed stay
Many visitors to the Costa Del Sol use rental cars, but it's advisable to book these well in advance as demand is high in peak season. Finding parking spaces and negotiating traffic in central Malaga can be a headache. Locals, known as malaguenos, are used to English-speaking tourists, but visitors will find that knowing a few Spanish phrases will be useful. As in many Spanish cities, most shops and businesses close between around 2pm and 5pm. Restaurants in Malaga are inexpensive, around 50% cheaper than London. Many places offer an economical fixed price menu del dia, with prices for 3 courses starting from around EUR6 including wine or soft drinks. Malaga is an hour ahead of the UK.
Getting around town and the coast
For the 15-minute journey from the airport to the centre, visitors have a choice of bus connections for around EUR 3 or the train costing around EUR1.75. The journey by taxi costs around EUR20. The trains also connect with most of the main resorts along the Costa Del Sol, while airport buses serve Marbella (for around EUR6), Torremolinos and Benalmadena (for about EUR4). It's easy to explore the main sights of central Malaga on foot, but local buses are inexpensive, with single trips costing around EUR1.30. Multi-trip travel cards, available from Estanco kiosks, are more economical for longer stays. Malaga accommodation options include backpackers' hostels with beds around EUR10 a night, while hotel rooms start around EUR50 for a double room per night.
