Tips and tricks to help you find cheap flights from London to Zurich
Useful information about the flight from London to Zurich
Sightseeing in Zurich
The wonderful city of Zurich is located at the north end of Lake Zurich in Northern Switzerland. It's a fantastic holiday destination with plenty of culture, shopping, historical and sightseeing tours. This amazing Swiss lakeside city has an easy-going atmosphere, is safe and child friendly with lots of things to do and see. Whether visiting Zurich on a business trip or family holiday, venture outside the comfort of your hotel or hostel accommodation to enjoy the sights.
Summer in Zurich
The best time to travel to Zurich is during the summer months which can be quite hot. Spring and autumn however can be quite cool and mild while the winter months of November-December are sometimes cold as well as foggy. Plan your visit to Zurich to coincide with the city's many holidays and festivals like the Medieval Sechseläuten Festival held in April. This is an exciting parade and "burning of Winter" in the form of an effigy called Böögg. In August there's a wonderful street parade, a Techno Festival while September sees the Knabenschiessen, a target shooting event.
Multilingual Zurich
Laid back Zurich is a multilingual city where most of the friendly locals speak German, French or English. The cost of living in the city is higher compared to London and the UK in general by around between 20% and 40%. Cheap meals will set you back around 25 Fr.
Zurich transport
When it comes to transport to get to and from Zurich airport to the city centre, it is best to take the train. Board the train from Level 2 at the airport by the shopping area opposite the arrivals hall. A single ticket will cost you about 6.60 Fr. There is also the Tram 10 (airport to main station) taking approx. 40 minutes, this will cost in the region of 6.60 Fr (same ticket as for trains) or several buses. Both the buses and trams stop at the airport ground floor (Level 1). Alternatively, travel into Zurich city centre from the airport by taxi, expect to pay around 70 CHF.
For accommodation, hostels are cheapest, costing approx. 34 CHF per night (shared room). Hotels are around 120 Fr. Central Zurich is quite compact so you can easily walk or cycle around the city. There's also the ZurichCard, which is a public transport ticket with special offers for some museums and other attractions. Travel on the trams, boats and subway to visit various attractions with a day pass.
