Historical Lisbon is a cultural and architectural treasure chest with landmarks like the sixteenth century Belem Tower, the Castelo da Sao Jorge crowning the city and Jéronimos Monastery. When is the best time to visit Lisbon?
Lisbon is an all year destination with warm summers and mild, but unpredictable winters. It can often be windy. For visiting during holiday and festival times Lisbon carnival is held about the middle of February. The streets become crowded with party-goers, especially during Shrove Tuesday with the colourful parade. Samba music and dazzling costumes are the order of the day. June is a full month of festivities honouring Lisbon's patron saint, Santo Antonio, with music, parades, decorations and grilled sardines.

Lisbon is generally less expensive than London. Public transport, groceries and eating out are all somewhat cheaper. You can get a lunch menu from about 8 EUR.
Is there public transport from Lisbon airport?
From Lisbon Airport's Terminal 2 passengers can take the free shuttle to Terminal 1 in order to use the public transport. The metro runs from 6 am to 1 am, going to Saldanha Station, where you change for the city centre. The journey is about 25 minutes and will cost about 2 EUR. A taxi will cost around 15 to 20 EUR, with an extra charge at around 1 EUR for each piece of luggage. At busy times you will find taxis more readily available from departures.
For accommodation, you can find hostels starting at around 15 EUR per night, and hotel prices start at around 45 EUR per night for a double room. To get about in Lisbon, you can walk to many of the attractions in the centre. Public transport includes buses, urban trains, the metro, ferries and trams. A single bus fare is around 1.50 EUR and is more expensive if you purchase it on the bus. A day pass is about 6 EUR. The Zapping, like an Oyster Card covers all public transport. The rechargeable card 7 Colinas or Viva Viagem is good value. The Aerobus runs on three routes to the city centre with a fare of about 3.50 EUR. The basic taxi fare is around 3.50EUR plus about 50 centimes for each extra kilometre.
