The year 2021 marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of San Marino, and bilateral relations maintained sound and steady development.

In May, President Xi Jinping and State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi exchanged congratulatory messages respectively with Captains Regent of San Marino Gian Carlo Venturini and Marco Nicolini, and with Foreign Minsiter Luca Beccari on the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic ties. The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries issued a joint press release on the anniversary. A commemorative event titled “Under the Same Sky” was held by San Marino in a hybrid format to celebrate the anniversary. Foreign Minister Beccari, Chinese ambassador to Italy and San Marino Li Junhua, and vice president of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries Jing Jiang attended the event.

Steady progress was made in trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, with a year-on-year increase of 48.3% in the two-way trade value.
