Actor-director Daniel Auteuil and key “Emilia Perez” collaborator Jean-Baptiste Pouilloux have set up their next features with Les Films Velvet, the auteur-focused production outfit behind this year’s Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Paris opener “The Musicians” as well as Rebecca Zlotowski’s upcoming, Jodie Foster-led thriller “Vie Privée.”
After last year’s Cannes-launched legal thriller “An Ordinary Case,” Auteuil will step back behind the camera for the World War II drama “Une Nuit” (“One Night”). Co-written by Auteuil and filmmaker Camille Lugan (“The Book of Joy”), the film follows the incredible true story of a 1942 effort to rescue more then one hundred Jewish children from a deportation camp just outside of Lyon. Les Films Velvet’s Frederic Jouve will produce alongside Adrien Nussenbaum.
An in-demand assistant director who has worked closely with Jacques Audiard, Zlotowski and Nadav Lapid, Pouilloux most recently led second unit on “Emilia Perez” before directing the Canal Plus series “Iris.

A few years before superhero fatigue kicked in, it seemed like every big-name actor in Hollywood was getting cast as a superhero. Whether it was for a quick payday or because their kids were huge fans, fans definitely enjoyed watching these A-listers take on the superhero suits, and the actors seemed to have fun too. Well, almost all of them.

What’s in the box, Harry?! The beloved Harry Potter film franchise could’ve taken a much darker turn if director David Fincher had gotten his hands on it. In an interview promoting the upcoming 4K re-release of Se7en, the filmmaker told Variety that Warner Bros. once asked to speak with him about potentially adapting J.K. Rowling's book series about a young wizard for the big screen.
“I was asked to come in and talk to them about how I would do Harry Potter,” Fincher remembered. “I remember saying, ‘I just don’t want to do the clean Hollywood version of it. I want to do something that looks a lot more like Withnail and I, and I want it to be kind of creepy.”
Needless to say, the studio wanted to take a different, more family-friendly creative direction. “They were like, ‘We want Thom Browne schooldays by way of Oliver,...

On the heels of a 2024 box office which saw French movies clinching a near record market share, the Gallic film and TV promotion org Unifrance is expanding its Rendez-Vous With French Cinema, a mini-market gathering local sales agents and 500 international buyers from roughly 40 countries.
The 27th edition of the Paris Rendez-Vous, which is dedicated to French films and TV content, is taking place this year in a new location, at the Pullman Paris Montparnasse, boasting panoramic views of the city of lights. The new space will allow French film and TV companies to be set up in a single location and spark dealmaking activity.
“Three years after our merger with TV France International, it’s great to see everyone under the same banner and in a unique location. It creates a vibrant atmosphere,” says Unifrance’s managing director Daniela Elstner, who previously led the Paris-based sales company Doc & Film International before joining the org.

Jim Carrey's career has taken some interesting turns over the years. After becoming a box-office juggernaut in the mid-1990s with the blazing blockbuster streak of "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," "The Mask," "Dumb and Dumber," "Batman Forever," and "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls," he found the ditch with the commercial and critical wipeout of Ben Stiller's darkly comedic curveball "The Cable Guy." The thoughtful actor reestablished his commercial connection with mainstream moviegoers the following year with "Liar Liar," then took another risk with Peter Weir's "The Truman Show." The result was one of the best films of 1998, one that received a curious smattering of Oscar nominations for Weir (Director), Supporting Actor (Ed Harris), and Original Screenplay (Andrew Niccol). That a film as acclaimed and successful as "The Truman Show" could be denied Best Picture and Best Actor nods in a weak year felt like a rebuke of its star.

There’s a reason we keep coming back to the heist movie genre, again and again and again. That’s because although most movies would have you believe that committing crimes is bad, we can’t help but respect a character who does it well. Robbing a little old lady on the street is unforgivable, sure, but robbing a wealthy old lady who keeps her hoard of ill-gotten money in an impenetrable vault surrounded by lasers and mercenaries? You gotta respect the moxie of anybody who even tries. And if they succeed, well dang, good for them. It sounds like they earned every penny.
There’s no shortage of classic heist movies, but with income inequality on our minds, and billionaires actively destroying everything decent about this planet every single day, the genre seems particularly alluring in the 21st century. Maybe that’s why we’ve had so many classic...

Why Did Gal Gadot Keep Her Pregnancy Under Wraps While Filming Wonder Woman? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Gal Gadot is Wonder Woman, but did you know she also grew a tiny human while filming? Yep, she kept her pregnancy under wraps to avoid anyone treating her differently. In a 2017 interview with Marie Claire, Gadot spilled the beans on her pregnancy while filming Wonder Woman (literally and figuratively). She was dealing with all the usual pregnancy fun—nausea, migraines, and, of course, hormonal chaos—but kept it on the down-low.
She said, “I gutted it out,” like it was no biggie. And to keep the pregnancy under wraps, she showed up to set with sunglasses on, sipping on “potato water”—a ginger concoction she kept as a secret weapon against her nausea. One of the producers, totally clueless, asked why she was drinking it. Gadot, unbothered, kept it cool and shrugged it off.

According to Pop Sugar, Clooney shared, “We were going to do The Notebook together… I was going to play him as a young man. It’s funny, we met, said, ‘This is it. It’s going to be great.’” But after watching some of Newman’s iconic films, Clooney had second thoughts. “He...

Both Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins grabbed Oscars for their respective roles as Clarice Starling and Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs. The film also won Best Picture and made $270 million at the box office worldwide. Foster revealed that she avoided Hopkins for most of the filming because she was afraid of him.

Foster explained that most of their scenes were shot with glass partitions in between them. It was this dynamic between the actors that reflected in the film and fans loved it. The scenes between Hopkins and Foster were dramatically new for the viewers at the time.

What Did Sofia Vergara Jokingly Say About Jodie Foster’s Golden Globes Win? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Jodie Foster’s victory at the 2025 Golden Globes was slightly derailed by a cheeky moment as she accepted her fifth win for Best Actress in a Limited Series for True Detective: Night Country. While the 62-year-old icon was making her way to the stage, Sofía Vergara, her fellow nominee and rival for the award for portraying the infamous Cocaine Godmother Griselda Blanco in the series Griselda, couldn’t resist a playful heckle.
As the announcer announced that it was Foster’s 10th nomination and fifth win, Vergara jumped up, mockingly calling out, “Oh no, give me one!”
Sofia Vergara just leapt from her seat and shouted “No, no! Not again! Give me one!” as Jodie Foster got to the stage to accept her Golden Globe lol

The Golden Globes have always been a celebration and acknowledgment of entertainment at its best and sometimes not so much. The tradition of predictable wins and surprising snubs has been followed by the recent Golden Globe Awards, which occurred on January 5, 2025, hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Perhaps one of the most-discussed outcomes this year was the mishandling of the crime drama The Penguin and its breakout actress Cristin Milioti. The series showing the growth of Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobb’s character, as a gangster in Gotham, emerged as one of HBO’s biggest hits. However, both the show and Milioti as Sofia Falcone getting snubbed felt like cheating due to the following possible reasons.

With last night's Golden Globe win for Best Actor in an anthology, limited series, or TV movie for his lead performance as Oz Cobb in The Penguin, Colin Farrell joins the very small circle of just three actors who have been honoured at the awards ceremony for playing comic book villains - and their characters all happen to be Batman foes.
Farrell was asked about joining the late Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix, who both previously won Golden Globes for their respective portrayals of the Joker in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight and Todd Phillips' Joker.
“You mentioned two actors who are, I think, for my money, two of the most extraordinarily talented and gifted and just brilliant artists in films that I’ve ever had the fortune to observe and be affected by," the Irish actor tells Variety. The red carpet has been rolled out, the suits and gowns have been set free, and the statuettes have been shined, which can only mean one thing: Awards season is back back back! Last night, at a ceremony in Los Angeles hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, it was the 2025 Golden Globes' turn to kick off the Hollywood festivities, offering us our first real sense of the top dogs and dark horses as the BAFTAs and Oscars inch ever nearer. And so far, Jacques Audiard's trans mobster musical Emilia Pérez and Brady Corbet's monumental epic The Brutalist are leading the pack, with the two movies picking up four and three gongs respectively on a night in which major contenders Anora, Conclave, and Wicked were largely relegated to the sidelines.

The 82nd Golden Globe Awards were a lively celebration of different kinds of people and great acts. The night’s top film winners were Netflix’s Spanish-language song Emilia Pérez and The Brutalist immigrant story. The night’s top TV winners were the historical drama Shōgun.
Emilia Pérez led the evening, winning four awards, including Best Picture—Musical or Comedy. The film was nominated for ten awards and won three. Zoe Saldaña won Best Supporting Female Actor. Saldaña’s win was especially impressive because she beat out co-star Selena Gomez and Wicked star Ariana Grande.

After sweeping the award season for her role in HBO’s True Detective: Night Country, Jodie Foster gave her take on the current film and TV landscape backstage Sunday at the 82nd annual Golden Globes.
Talking to reporters backstage, she said she thinks, whether film or television, the streamers are taking up the mantle when it comes to bold storytelling at the moment.
“Honestly, I think the most exciting narrative filmmaking right now is being done on streaming. That’s where I really go to see performances and to see characters build over time,” she said.
When a reporter asked her which medium she’s enjoying most these days, she added that “although I have to say the features this year are amazing, for me as a feature person, it’s great to see that both can coexist, and there are different ways of telling stories.”

“Wicked” was not one of the big winners at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards. It came into the show with four nominations and only won once, in the two-year-old category of Cinematic and Box Office Achievement — a category that seemed designed to celebrate popcorn movies that wouldn’t get Globes any other way.
But when he got to the microphone to accept its one award, “Wicked” director Jon M. Chu sounded a note that could have summed up many of the movies that won in the Beverly Hilton ballroom on Sunday: “We can still make art that is a radical act of optimism.”
You could say that about “Wicked,” and about “Emilia Perez,” “Conclave,” “The Substance,” “A Different Man,” “Flow” and many of the films that won Globes. And if Chu’s comment seems to be a heady thought to inject into one of the most frivolous and questionable of Hollywood’s awards shows,...

Hacks swiftly was renewed after the conclusion of its third installment in May, and audiences are sure to see a new dynamic between Ava and Deborah in Season 4.
Following the HBO comedy’s Golden Globe win Sunday night, creator Jen Statsky teased that they are now at a point in their relationship “they’ve never been before” after Ava (Hannah Einbinder) blackmailed Deborah (Jean Smart) into giving her the head writer position on her late-night gig in the Season 3 finale.
“Definitely in Season 4 you see them butting heads in ways they never have while also trying to get a show off the ground, which is very, very complicated,” Statsky explained.
This is the second time that Hacks has taken home the award for Outstanding Musical or Comedy Series at the Globes. Smart and Einbinder also were nominated for their roles once again, with Smart winning for a second time.

Fernanda Torres is going in the Golden Globes history books. The I’m Still Here star won the Best Drama Actress Golden Globe on Sunday, becoming the first Brazilian to win the prize.
Torres is only the second Brazilian to be nominated in the category, following her mother Fernanda Montenegro, who was nominated 26 years ago for Central Station; she lost to Cate Blanchett for Elizabeth. Torres dedicated her award to her mother, adding that her win is proof that “art can endure in life.”
The actress is also the fourth performer to win the category for a non-English language performance after Anouk Aimée (A Man and a Woman), Liv Ullman (The Emigrants), and Isabelle Huppert (Elle). I’m Still Here, Brazil’s international feature submission at the Oscars, is in Portuguese.

The 82nd Golden Globes, or as host called Nikki Glaser dubbed “Ozempic’s biggest night,” delivered more than a few humdingers from the ballroom of the Beverly Hilton on Sunday. From The Rock’s crack about his hair being used for Timothée Chalamet’s wig, to Melissa McCarthy’s concern for the “severity of the cocaine addiction in the bear community,” here are the most colorful, crazy and cringy moments from the three-hour, 12-minute ceremony on CBS.
Colorful: “You’re all so famous, so talented, so powerful,” said Glaser. “I mean, you could really do anything, except tell the country who to vote for.”
Crazy-Cringy: Maybe we’re so used to watching the presenters head on from the Pov of the audience, but the camera angle for their intros felt extremely loud and incredibly close this year. And the snafus with the Teleprompter (poor Ariana DeBose) didn’t make the situation any better.

Some jokes are just too-hot for TV — especially for CBS — even if they’re delivered in the loosey-goosey Golden Globes ballroom (and even when those Golden Globes are hosted by Nikki Glaser).
Ironically, the bleeped joke of Sunday evening was not delivered by Glaser, a veteran standup comedian who has made her bones with vicious roast jokes. No, it was the lovable Seth Rogen delivering a line about the beloved (and also Canadian) Ryan Gosling.
The setup: Rogen and Catherine O’Hara (another Canadian and the star of “Schitt’s Creek”) were presenting for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or a Motion Picture Made for Television. Jodie Foster would win the trophy for her starring role on “True Detective: Night Country.” (Find all of the night’s winners here.)
But before Foster was announced and could accept the award: the banter. The general joke here...

She’s added to her collection. Jodie Foster has won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Limited Series for her turn as police chief Liz Danvers in “True Detective: Night Country.” Check out the full list of 2025 Golden Globe winners here.
When she won the 2024 Primetime Emmy for the role back in September, Foster became the first actor from any of the “True Detective” installments to win an Emmy. The Globe win adds to an extraordinary awards shelf for the 62-year-old Hollywood legend, including two Academy Awards for Best Actress (for “The Accused” and “The Silence of the Lambs”) and three previous competitive Globes wins and the Globes’ honorary Cecil B. DeMille Award.
Foster’s Chief Danvers is maybe the most memorable lead character in a “True Detective” installment yet. Here, she leads the local police force in Ennis, Alaska, a tiny town so far north that...
