Pamela Kaval is a multi-award-winning filmmaker and actor based in New Zealand, celebrated for her compelling storytelling that combines a deep commitment to nature with her passion for film. Her journey into filmmaking began on a flight home from conducting research on the Galapagos Islands, where she was inspired by the rich history of the tortoises that inhabit the islands and wrote her first picture book. This pivotal moment led to the creation of a novel and screenplay, paving the way for her exploration of various genres, including comedy, drama, family-friendly stories, thrillers, and documentaries.
Pamela has garnered over 40 awards and more than 140 nominations and selections for her short films at film festivals worldwide, including 8 personal awards for acting, screenwriting and producing. She is now focused on developing feature film scripts, acting and making films. Pamela also runs Youth Filmmakers workshops, where she teaches children about the entire filmmaking process from script to screen. Her success with these workshops has led to her role as the Youth Program Manager for the Misty Flicks Film Festival.
Prior to her film career, Pamela was an environmental academic, professional editor and park ranger. She has over 100 publications centered on sustainability, biodiversity, and ecosystem services. This rich background informs her films, giving her a distinctive voice in the industry.
