About me
Hi, my name is Kevin King, and I am a typeface designer and researcher working for Typotheque, based in Toronto, Canada. My work centres on research-based typographic design solutions that add value to writing systems, with a focus on supporting the Indigenous languages and writing systems of North America. Through working in collaboration with Indigenous language keepers and experts, I aim to identify technical challenges and errors in script representation in order to deliver higher quality typefaces and typographic resources for syllabics and roman orthographies. These efforts lead me to work on script encoding initiatives with the Unicode Consortium, to add missing characters and correct errors in representation for Indigenous communities (https://www.unicode.org/L2/L2020/20255-ucas-adds.pdf). These efforts lay a framework for providing innovative typographic tools that provide a positive impact towards Indigenous language revitalization and preservation in Canada and the United States.
