What to Know

  • You'll need flint, sticks, and feathers to make arrows.
  • A flint on top, a stick in the middle, and a feather at the bottom on a crafting table will net you a stack of four arrows.
  • Arrows can then be combined with potions to create tipped arrows, which will apply a potion effect on contact.

This article explains how to make arrows in Minecraft. Instructions apply to every platform.

What You Need to Make Arrows

Arrows are pretty easy to acquire. You'll need:

  • Flint
  • Stick
  • Feather

You only need one of each of the above to make a stack of four arrows, but if you're crafting arrows, chances are you'll want more than just four, so acquiring more of the above supplies is probably a good idea. Luckily, these resources aren't especially hard to get.

You get flint from mining gravel, which is easy to find underground. Sticks come from wooden planks, which you can make out of logs from trees. Gather feathers from killing chickens or parrots, which can drop up to two feathers.

How to Make Arrows in Minecraft

Once you've acquired the necessary supplies, here's how to start making arrows.

  1. Start off at a Crafting Table, which you can craft with four wooden plank blocks of any type.

What Can You Craft With Arrows?

The main thing you can craft with arrows is a tipped arrow. Tipped arrows are, essentially, potions in arrow form. When you shoot a tipped arrow and it makes contact with an enemy, the effect of the potion at hand will be applied to the enemy.

To craft tipped arrows, you'll need your potion of choice as well as a stack of eight arrows. Together, these ingredients will create eight tipped arrows. At the Crafting Table interface, place your potion in the middle, and then surround it with arrows.

Platform-Specific Arrows in ’Minecraft‘

Certain types of tipped arrows, Arrows of Decay and Arrows of Luck, are not available on all versions of Minecraft. The two exceptions are as follows:

  • Arrows of Decay: Exclusive to the Bedrock edition.
  • Arrows of Luck: Exclusive to the Java edition.

However, you can obtain Arrows of Decay in Java via either console commands or creative mode, while earlier versions of Bedrock (before the crossplay update) can access Arrows of Luck. In most cases, though, these arrows are not available on either platform.

Tips and Tricks for ‘Minecraft’ Arrows

Crafting may not be the most efficient way of acquiring arrows, depending on the state of your particular world and how many arrows you're looking to acquire.

Skeletons, for example, can drop up to two arrows on death, while Fletcher villagers can also sell arrows, both normal and tipped varieties, for emeralds. However, you may not even need them.

On a bow, you can apply the Infinity enchantment to prevent arrows from being consumed when you shoot your bow. As long as you have one arrow in your inventory, you can shoot forever.
