MULTIDISCIPLINARY OSTEOPATHY GUIDI STUDIO: PHILOSOPHY AND ITS PROFESSIONALS 

My name is Valentina Marie Guidi, and I am an independent CDS Osteopath. Since May 2016, I opened the multidisciplinary Osteopathy Guidi studio with the aim of creating a synergy between professionals with whom I actively collaborate to follow women during the stages of their lives, being specialized in pediatric osteopathy, pregnancy, pre-birth and post-birth. Of course, men, children and adults are also addressed to the practice for different problems.In fact, the philosophy of the practice is based on the care of the person from 0 to 100 years through the resolution and prevention of disorders and diseases.

In the practice we receive by appointment only and there are three therapists.

Annick Bondietti (077 512 22 02, Mondays and Wednesdays continuous hours) as an osteopath for adults and children. Tommaso Barucca (076 687 93 23, Thursday round-the-clock) as an osteopath for adults and children, specializing in sports. Stefano Benatelli, medical massage therapist (076 479 43 92, Mon-Sat all day), specializing in sports, medical massage, lymphatic drainage, plantar reflexology and cryotherapy.

Where we are

The multidisciplinary  "Osteopathy Guidi" studio is located at 50 Camara Street in Breganzona. By car, it is easily accessible from the highway (Lugano Nord exit) in about 5 minutes and from the city center in about 20 minutes. Patients have at their disposal 3 parking lots (n^ A7, B3, B4) labeled "P - Osteopathy Guidi".

By public transportation, the practice can be reached in about 20 minutes from the city center by bus number 3, to and from Breganzona, "Medi" stop, or by bus number 16 to and from Besso-Sorengo-Muzzano, "Camara Scuole" stop. 

The studio has a second location in Pollegio, via Vecchia Ferrovia 22, where Valentina Marie Guidi works on Mondays as an osteopath for children and adults.

OSTEOPATHY: some useful information

Osteopathy and the musculoskeletal system

Muscle and/or joint inflammations in the lower limbs (foot, ankle, knee, hip) and upper limbs (shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand), pain related to the spine (low back pain, back pain, cervicalgia), inter-costal pain, pain in the sacrum and/or coccyx (sacralgia and/or coccygodynia) following a major trauma (sports, car accident, ...) or during pregnancy and postpartum, headaches of cervical origin or from states such as dental clenching and/or bruxism, decrease in frequency and intensity of headaches of migraine origin, reduction of pain and stiffness in Parkinson's disease patient. 

Osteopathy and the digestive system

General digestive difficulties (heartburn, feeling of abdominal bloating, intestinal irregularity such as constipation or dysentery) that can affect other systems such as musculoskeletal pain localized in the innervation areas of the organs deputed to digestion (related to lumbago or back pain), headaches and sleep disorders.

Osteopathy in women

Lumbar pain, cervical pain, headache related to the menstrual cycle , musculoskeletal pain (low back pain, sciatica, back pain, inter-costal pain, cervicalgia) during pregnancy and postpartum. As an osteopath specializing in pregnancy, prepartum, postpartum, and pediatrics, I also treat gastritis, nausea, constipation, and can assign specific exercises in preparation for childbirth and postpartum to improve pelvic and spinal mobility.

Osteopathy in the pediatric setting

Finally, infants can develop cranial bone deformities either related to the intra-uterine position, during gestation, or related to the dynamics of childbirth in which the presentation and timing of the infant's expulsion are not always optimal. These issues can lead to predisposition to various disorders such as: general states of irritability, sleep disturbances, colic, regurgitation even with jet vomiting, torticollis and plagiocephaly (when the head appears "flattened" in some specific areas that can usually be posterior or lateral).

In childhood, they treat problems related to chewing and/or swallowing (e.g., related to the use of certain orthodontic appliances, so in direct collaboration with the dentist and orthodontist), the ears and sinuses can be treated to prevent otitis and sinusitis and often associated headache states, it is possible to treat spinal deformities related to scoliosis or scoliotic postures, prevent flat feet where the plantar vault is still present but decreased in height, decrease in intensity so-called growing pains by specifically treating the affected joints (often knees and ankles).

Osteopathic treatment: the limits

The scope of Osteopathy excludes all serious anatomical injuries, but also all medical emergencies. Osteopathy cannot heal degenerative diseases, tumors, genetic diseases, infectious diseases, rheumatological diseases, fractures. However, it is possible to turn to the Osteopath to improve some symptoms related to specific surgeries (e.g., in the treatment of scar adhesions after tumor removal) or specific pharmacological treatments that may cause symptoms such as nausea, lack of appetite, digestive difficulties, bowel irregularity, sleep disturbances (e.g., patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy or treatments that tend to interfere with the immune system as in some rheumatological diseases).
