Description
Laurent Berthet, winegrower and winemaker in Cully en lavaux
YOUR VINEYARD, YOUR PLEASURE
At the heart of the spectacular terraced vineyards of Lavaux - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - Laurent Berthet, passionate winegrower and oenologist cultivates his 2-hectare vineyard.
For eight centuries already, the Lavaux vines have been bathed in the sun that undulates over the dizzying shores of Lake Geneva, sheltered by the nocturnal warmth of low vine walls, and filled by soils of a morainic and mineral nature. Through his wines, Laurent Berthet tells this age-old, traditional story while integrating cutting-edge, modern winemaking techniques.
His vineyard reflects the strong identity of the terroir, as well as the desire to perpetuate sustainable viticulture. Thanks to integrated production that respects ecosystems, Laurent Berthet wines are sublimated in taste and aroma.

YOUR VINEYARD
The production area
Our vineyard is an Appellation d'origine contrôlée Lavaux, the production sites are Villette and Epesses.
A favorable climate
The low altitude of the plots (max. 450 m), the declivity of the slope, and the south to southwest exposure of the plots provide very favorable conditions for vine growth. In addition, the influence of Lake Geneva on the Lavaux climate is of prime importance. The region benefits, as the saying goes, from "three suns": the star itself, the reflection of its rays by the lake and the nocturnal restitution of the heat accumulated by the vineyard walls.
.Limestone soil
The entire Lavaux hillside has been strongly shaped by glaciers. The subsoil of our estate is made up of compact moraines, plastered onto the underlying molasse (bedrock). The soils are calcareous, medium-textured and not very stony. Their depth varies from a few dozen centimeters to several meters, depending on the zone. As with all good vine-growing soils, fertility is moderate: sufficient for good vine growth, but not excessive. The water regime is also adapted: subsoil reserves, no excesses detrimental to good grape enrichment in sugars and aromatic compounds.
Wire culture
Vines are grown on wires, in rows spaced at around 1.60 meters apart. This method of cultivation is the ideal compromise for guaranteeing optimum quality while making work easier. As the terrain is not suitable for tractors, much of the work is done by hand. However, caterpillar tracks equipped with various implements enable some work to be mechanized.
