Historical facts
Church of Grafenried
The Protestant Reformed Church of Grafenried has a long history.
Around 700 AD. the Alemanni built the first church "ufem Chilehoger".
Old family graves with burial objects point to this.
By 1500 AD, a further 5 church buildings were added, which grew in size. At that time, the first church tower was also built.
The current beautifully designed church dates back to 1747. Simplicity prevails both inside and out, which characterizes this bright and friendly church.
The first organ was inaugurated in 1886 and was promptly overhauled for the last time in 2004.
The church tower was rebuilt in 1953 and new bells were added to mark the occasion: F bell 1010kg, A flat bell 610kg, B flat bell 443kg, C bell 307kg.
Today's modern three choir windows with biblical motifs (AT left: God gives the Israelites manna and quails / center: Last Supper with bread, cup and crown of thorns / NT right: Feeding of the 5000 with bread and fish) are by Max Brunner and were installed in 1963.
At the front is the choir stall, on the left with the special compartment for the "Bernese gentlemen of that time", in the middle is the baptismal font and on the right on the wall is the pulpit. The church was last renovated in 1988.
The entire group, including the church, parish hall (Pfrundscheune), vicarage from 1736 and the Wöschhüsli, is subject to heritage protection and is classified as worthy of protection.
Church of Limpach
A small church stood on the Chilchrain in Limpach as early as the Middle Ages. In 1276, it was first mentioned in writing along with the village.
The small medieval church became increasingly dilapidated in the 18th century. As a result, Johann Daniel Osterrieth (Bernese master builder) built today's larger church in the elegant neoclassical style in 1808. A friendly and bright Empire Preaching Hall welcomes visitors and the beautiful sandstone work at the main entrance and on the tower is an eye-catcher. The view over the roofs of Limpach and across the wide plain is enchanting at any time of year.
Three bells have been ringing in the church tower since 1923. The large bell was cast in 1514 and has been ringing out over the Limpach Valley ever since. The middle bell was wound in 1923 and the small bell has been ringing since 1842.
A new organ was installed in 1980. A few years later, the interior of the church was renovated.
The church has room for around 200 people. Thanks to its exceptional acoustics, the bright and friendly church interior is ideal for smaller and larger concerts.
Slightly below the church is the Pfrundschüür. Its infrastructure offers space for a maximum of 80 people.
