If teeth are damaged or missing, reconstructive dentistry is used. A damaged tooth (e.g. due to caries or a leaking old filling) can be functionally and aesthetically restored using a partial ceramic crown. The remaining healthy tooth substance is protected. If the tooth is severely damaged, a full crown offers the most stable structure.
