Description
A reverent and personal presence at your side
Together with you, we want to make the funeral and burial a special moment that will be remembered fondly by family, friends and acquaintances. What kind of person was the deceased and what is important to you when saying goodbye? Tell us about it. We will welcome you in the pleasant, friendly atmosphere of our premises in Basel, Binningen or Laufen and will also be happy to visit you at home.
Repatriation
Bestattungen Hans Heinis is known as a specialist for worldwide repatriations by hearse or airplane. We are very familiar with the cultural and legal peculiarities of the individual countries and, together with our partners, will support you in obtaining important documents.
Comprehensive assistance
We relieve you of all tasks that you place in our hands. Whether it's registering and deregistering, clearing out rooms, household liquidations, executing wills, procuring documents or finding experts to sell properties - we support you with all the formalities so that you have time to grieve.
Farewell
In the region's funeral rooms, we design the farewell ceremony individually according to your wishes and in keeping with the personality of the deceased. Whether it's the floral arrangements, the choice of music or the decoration of the rooms, coffin or urn - we will advise you competently and with a flair for that certain something.
Speech & accompaniment
We would particularly like to recommend our funeral speaker and grief counselor Esther Barandun. With wonderful words, she lets the personality of the deceased shine through once again and helps you to find your way back to life step by step during the difficult time of mourning.

Funeral, a question of personality
Earth burial
When burying a coffin in the ground, you can choose between different types of graves: the in-ground grave with a free right of use for 20 years or the family grave with a paid right of use for 40 years. You can take care of the grave yourself or leave it to the cemetery administration.
CremationAfter the coffin has been cremated, you can choose from a variety of burial options for the urn. Cemeteries offer free graves such as the urn row and common grave as well as graves for which a fee is charged, such as the urn niche or the meadow, urn family and tree grave. In addition to various alternative types of burial outside the cemetery, you also have the option of taking the urn home with you.
Rhine burialRhine burial is a wonderful form of burial for Basel residents and Rhine lovers. After a short farewell ceremony, the urn of the deceased is buried on one of four Rhine ferries in silence or in the presence of relatives. If desired, the ceremony can be accompanied by music and a solemn speech by the captain. Of course, we can also arrange a burial in other rivers and lakes. Just get in touch with us!
Aerial burial
Flying once and being gently scattered to the winds - for many people a beautiful idea that we at Bestattungen Hans Heinis make come true. The scattering of ashes from a small aircraft, flown by Cyrill Thoma himself, is a popular service offered by our company. Of course, we can also arrange other airplane funerals or balloon burials. We will be happy to advise you.
Forest burial
For many people, the forest is not only an idyllic place of peace during their lifetime - burial in so-called burial forests is also becoming increasingly popular. In this nature-loving forest burial, the ashes are buried at the foot of a magnificent tree. Over time, the tree absorbs the ashes through its roots and the deceased rejoins the cycle of life. We are also happy to offer you the private forest of Bestattungen Hans Heinis as a resting place. You are cordially invited to a guided tour on site!
A death plan means security
Many people have clear ideas about their last journey - or at least about what they absolutely want to take with them, or what they definitely don't want. Think for yourself: How do you imagine your farewell? How do you want your farewell ceremony to be organized? What music will be played? And where would you like to be laid to rest? By setting out your wishes and those of your loved ones in a funeral care contract, you will remain self-determined even in death and can face life with more serenity. We will be happy to discuss all legal and social issues with you.
Determine your funeral wishes in detail with us - and enjoy the good feeling with your family that everything is safely arranged.

Coffins and urns from classic to modern
Carefully selecting a coffin or urn is a final token of love. Whether classic, modern or individual - our extensive range of coffins and urns will meet the most diverse ideas. Simply let yourself be inspired by the wide range of materials, colors and shapes. We would also be happy to show you many of the urn models you see here in our funeral homes in Basel, Binningen and Laufen.
Mourning print, as individual as a past life
Funeral circulars don't always have to be classic black and white. We are happy to design and print obituaries, cards and thank you notes that are as varied and colorful as the life and personality of your deceased loved one. With a personal picture or a special text, matching his or her hobby or nature. Talk to us about your ideas! At Heinis Druckerei, we produce your personalized funeral stationery and also take care of the publication of advertisements and the timely dispatch of the funeral cards.
Funeral directors out of love for people
Located in the heart of Basel and at our locations in Binningen, Laufen and Liestal, we are your experienced companions in all matters relating to funerals - and have been for 130 years. We always act in your best interests and support you reliably with empathy and sensitivity. As a certified funeral director and member of the Swiss Professional Association, we have always been committed to the highest quality. And this can be seen in small gestures such as the white rose that we leave behind as a sign of a past life when we collect the body.
Our company has stood for quality since 1888
We are now celebrating our 130th anniversary with our funeral home Hans Heinis, formerly Matthey-Meier. During this time, we have gained invaluable experience in dealing with death, grief and confidence. Whether in the sensitive counselling of mourners and those making provisions or in the personal design and implementation of funeral services and funerals - we have always attached great importance to quality. We uphold dignified traditions, break new ground and treat everyone who comes to us with respect and openness.
