Digital radiology and radiographic diagnosis
A precise and early radiographic diagnosis requires high-quality radiographs. Our modern digital x-ray equipment allows for high-definition imaging, the possibility of playing with contrasts, decreased waiting time, and a significant decrease in the dose of rays to which the patient is subjected. Digital x-rays are also easily transmitted to the patient or colleagues via a simple email without losing quality.
Hygiene and prevention
Oral hygiene is essential to prevent most oral diseases.
For good oral hygiene, our experienced hygienists will provide:
- eliminate tartar and plaque, which are the origin of tooth decay, halitosis, gingivitis, and severe periodontal disease.
- instruct on brushing technique, the type of toothbrush and toothpaste best suited for each patient.
- advise individually on the best tool to use for essential interdental cleaning.
- fluoride, if necessary, to strengthen teeth against caries.
Whitening
There are basically two types of whitening that are performed in our practice:
"Home bleaching"
.Pherulas (soft, transparent type of tooth protector) are custom-made for the patient, who at home will place a whitening gel inside them before applying them to the teeth.
Internal whitening
Treatment reserved for devitalized teeth that have become dark (often gray) over time.
Adhesive restorations
Adhesive restorations have largely replaced outdated treatments such as gray amalgam "fillings" and capsules. In addition to being aesthetically pleasing because of their camouflage (they are white), adhesive restorations have a great advantage: they adhere excellently to the tooth. This "seemingly small detail" makes all the difference: in fact, it allows us to preserve as much of the precious healthy tissue of the tooth as possible, often also preserving its vitality, and therefore, its length of stay in our mouths.
The famous gray "fillers" (amalgam) are aesthetically unacceptable, they contain mercury, plus the cavities must be retentive with major undercuts because the amalgam does not adhere to the tooth. This results in a major sacrifice of healthy tissue and thus a weakening of the tooth itself, often leading to catastrophic fractures. Capsules (crowns and bridges on natural teeth) are extremely mutilating; in fact, the tooth is reduced three-dimensionally into a small copy of itself and then covered with a tooth-shaped "cap." This treatment is carried out when an old cap is rebuilt or in rare cases where no other option is contemplated.
Composite fillings
Excellent technique to close small or medium cavities due to:
- Caries
- Fractured teeth reconstruction
- Closing diastemas (spaces)
- Replacing small or medium amalgams
These fillings are done in a single session and often require local anesthesia.
Light-curing composite resins (they harden under the action of a specific light) are used, which are white and totally metal-free.
Onlays / Inlays
Treatment to replace large portions of a missing tooth. This is a technique that requires 2 sessions about a week apart. During the first session, caries, old restorations, and tooth "tips" that are too fine to resist chewing are ablated. This first stage almost always requires anesthesia. Specific surface treatment is then performed, a small partial impression of the situation is taken, and a temporary product is applied, which will then be removed at the second appointment.
During the second appointment, generally without the need for anesthesia, the provisional product is removed without the aid of a drill and the "missing piece" is adhesively cemented in the meantime made in the laboratory by our dental technicians. This technique is extremely conservative (preparation does not have to follow mutilating geometric laws), and replaces most indications that once required the fabrication of crowns, a currently obsolete and mutilating treatment. Most often, onlays (or inlays) allow for the preservation of tooth vitality, a key factor in how long teeth remain in the mouth.
Ceramic veneers
Ceramic veneers are the ultimate esthetic treatment. Extremely conservative and effective, they allow the perfect maintenance of gum health, which is not an element to be underestimated in a beautiful smile.
The main indication for veneers is to change the shape of one's teeth. This may be necessary in case of:
- Loss of enamel due to acidic eating and/or improper brushing.
- Large composite restorations made as a result of caries or fractures.
- Fractures of the anterior teeth.
- Lowly aesthetic congenital shape.
- Congenital or orthodontically induced position to close any diastemas (spaces) that are bothersome to the patient.
Palatine veneers
Palatine veneers, as their name implies, are placed on the inner (palatine) face of the anterior teeth. The main indication is enamel loss due to aggressive chemical agents such as acid induced or not.
Surgery
Thanks to the use of lasers and piezosurgery apparatus (ultrasonic surgery) to complement classical surgery, we offer the following surgeries:
Implantology
Replacement of missing teeth by means of Titanium-zirconium roots (implants from the Straumann company).
Bone volume increases
Thanks to bone reconstruction techniques, we can recreate bone where it is insufficient for the insertion of one or more implants.
Crown and bridges on implants
Implants allow us to replace the roots of missing natural teeth on which individual teeth (crowns) or segments of teeth (bridges) can then be reconstructed so as to restore function and aesthetics to the chewing apparatus.
Bridges and crowns can be screwed or cemented onto implants depending on their depth and inclination.
Removable prostheses
In cases where pathologies of health, general or of the oral cavity, do not allow us a fixed type of rehabilitation, we have the solution of the partial or total removable prosthesis ; the first is to be inserted and hooked on the remaining teeth, the second rests entirely on the gingiva.
Functionally sound, these prostheses can often be more stabilized by the insertion of a limited number of implants.
Pedodontics
Magic jelly, mosquitoes, beavers, elephants, circus tents, you name it, these are our working tools described to young children to care for their teeth in a playful and empathetic atmosphere. Contrary to the commonplace that baby teeth are not to be cared for, deciduous teeth are very important to hold space for the coming permanent teeth. In addition, neglecting an infection on baby teeth can lead to malformation of the underlying permanent tooth.
Complementary treatment
Ability to adjunct the treatment with hypnosis sessions
Thanks to our associate Silvana Famiglietti and her many years of experience in the field of hypnosis, you can be helped in case you suffer from particular phobias. Preparation outside the office and assistance during the interventions will allow you to reduce as much as possible any fears, vomitive reflexes, smoking and other problems that could interfere with the success of the treatment.
Homeopathy (preventive and curative) and Chinese medicine (in collaboration with Pharmacina, Locarno)
For those who prefer alternative medicine as far as analgesia and tranquilizers are concerned, we take the advice of pharmacist Sara Varini who, depending on the intervention to be done, will be able to propose the remedies that best suit you.
Osteopathy
In the case of musculoskeletal disorders, such as myoarthropathy of the masticatory system, we combine our treatment with advice from osteopaths Lorenzo Simona and Martina Varini.
Lumbar area massage chairs
To ensure that you are always seated in the most comfortable way, we are equipped with the latest generation of armchairs with lumbar massage.
