Pediatric neuropsychology

Neuropsychology is a branch of psychology and overlaps with neuroscience. Neuropsychology deals with the functions and performance of the brain (technical term: cognition), including general thinking/intelligence, attention, memory, language and perception, as well as behavioral control, mental working speed and emotions.

A neuropsychological assessment (also known as neuropsychological diagnostics or test diagnostics) is used to examine brain performance and possible disorders. Causes of a cognitive disorder can be congenital or acquired, e.g. due to a congenital brain dysfunction, an illness or an accident with brain injury.

Based on the latest findings in brain research, neuropsychological tests and methods are used. A detailed neuropsychological assessment usually takes several hours.
