Description
The HerzZentrum Hirslanden Zurich is the largest private heart center in Switzerland. State-of-the-art medicine at university level and personal care by doctors working in partnership lead to optimal treatment.
Hypertension
Arterial hypertension is present if the blood pressure values at rest or during a 24-hour measurement are above 140/90 mmHg on average. If arterial hypertension is diagnosed, drug therapy should be initiated, usually for the rest of the patient's life, to prevent secondary damage.
Cardiology
The specialty of cardiology as a branch of internal medicine deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the heart, the vessels close to the heart and the circulatory system.
Cardiac and vascular surgery
Cardiac surgery has been an independent medical specialty since 1993, which has developed from general surgery with the specialty of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery and deals with the surgical treatment of congenital and acquired diseases and injuries of the heart and the vessels close to the heart.
Echocardiography
Echocardiography (ultrasound examination of the heart) is one of the most important non-invasive imaging procedures in cardiology today. It makes it possible to make a comprehensive statement about the structure and function of the heart. Diseases of the heart muscle, the heart valves, congenital heart defects, statements about the heart's blood flow and conclusions about diseases, e.g. of the lungs, can be made with certainty.
Pacemaker/ICD
Pacemakers are electronic systems that make it possible to prevent various cardiac arrhythmias that lead to a pulse that is too slow. Advances in microelectronics have meant that today's modern systems can control up to three heart chambers and thus ensure that the electrical activity of the heart is as physiological as possible.
Life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias are eliminated using so-called internal defibrillators (ICDs), which also have a pacemaker function.
Rhythmology
Rhythmology is a specialist field that deals with all forms and treatment options for cardiac arrhythmias.
The focus is on the invasive treatment of cardiac arrhythmias using catheter-based interventions. Arrhythmias can be treated at the level of both the atria and the ventricles. The implantation of pacemakers or internal defibrillators to prevent sudden cardiac death is also important. Another area of application is stimulation in cases of cardiac insufficiency by implanting biventricular systems.
