For over ten years, the Federal Trade Commission has managed the Military Consumer initiative to provide free federal resources as a first line of defense against fraud for active duty servicemembers, military families, veterans, and civilians in the military community. The campaign was created and continues today in large thanks to the FTC’s close partnerships with the Department of Defense’s Office of Financial Readiness and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s Office of Servicemember Affairs. Military Consumer works with a robust network of federal, state, and local partners to amplify practical advice that helps military consumers make better-informed decisions when managing their money.

Seal of the Federal Trade Commission

The Federal Trade Commission protects consumers by challenging scams and other lawful practices that affect the military community. Through education and outreach, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) provides free, plain-language advice to help military servicemembers, veterans, and their families avoiding scams and identity theft. Report fraud, scams, and suspicious calls, emails, and text messages to the FTC online at ReportFraud.ftc.gov or by calling 1-877-FTC-HELP (382-4357). Report identity theft to the FTC at IdentityTheft.gov. Although the FTC can't resolve individual disputes, the information you provide can indicate a pattern of violations requiring action by the Commission. Order free print materials to share with your community in multiple languages at: www.ftc.gov/bulkorder.

The mission of the Department of Defense is to provide the military forces needed to deter war and to protect the security of our country. The department's headquarters is at the Pentagon.

DoD’s Office of Financial Readiness (DoD FINRED), in collaboration with the services, federal partners, and non-federal entities provides programs, policy, education, advocacy and program oversight required for service members and families to achieve personal financial readiness in support of mission readiness.
