Well made, mostly well designed

Written on Jan 08, 2025

I really like stock and the ability to fold it. The machining is well done and the materials are high quality. Looks nice on my AK as well.

My biggest complaint is some of their design decisions. For one: the folding mechanism sits kind of low so my hand makes contact with the hinge barrel during use. Second: there'e only a single screw that holds the folding mechanism to the picatinny adapter and there's only one screw holding the stock to the folding mechanism. While the whole setup feels pretty solid, the single screws don't inspire a whole lot of confidence. I haven't had any problems but I have a hard time seeing it holding tight over extended, rugged use.

More red than expected for Coco Bolo but still looks and feels great.

I was expecting a dark walnut color similar to the picture but mine was more red than brown. I understand not all trees grow the same, so not really Hogue's fault. That being said the grips still look good on my S&W 586. The grips are far more ergonomic than the factory grips and some other grips I've tried. Fit and finish is excellent and installation (and uninstallation) is a breeze.

Excellent dot, great price

Written on Jul 18, 2024

I have a couple of these Liberty II’s and so far they’ve held up great. Dot is nice and crisp, and plenty bright for being out in the sun (something other affordable dots don’t do). The 7075 aluminum housing is pretty beefed up but not to the point where it obscures your view. I also really like that there are no white painted logos or anything.

My only complaint is the deck height is a little thick. Isn’t a problem on my FN545 Tactical but the “suppressor height sights” that came with my CZ P-10 are not quite tall enough.

Excellent quality and features, especially for the price

This is my 2nd one of these. My go-to quick release cantilever mount. Mount feels rugged and durable, is relatively lightweight and has returned to zero every time for me on both of my rifles. They did a nice job rounding all the edges and locking levers are well designed. These also come in at an affordable price. Great job UTG!

Pitiful design, doesn't work without modification on Hungarian AK63DS

Written on Nov 30, 2023

This item is poorly designed. To start, it's a very tight "fit" that requires a nylon mallet to beat it on with. Once it's on - which it will certainly scratched the finish on your stock putting it on - the screw holes don't have enough clearance, meaning the underside of the underfolder arm prevents the screws from making it trough. So then I milled out some material from the inside of the mount so it would sit low enough and give the screws clearance. Once I did that, the screws were too short to even reach the other side. A thread or two bite in then strip out because the screw head bottoms out before they can get a good bite into the threading. Took a pair of vice grips to squeeze the 2 sides closer together so the screws could get a bite into the t-nut on the other side. FINALLY it's installed, but wait... I go to fold the stock and the t-nut protruding from the mount scratches my receiver and the center support rivet. Last but not least, the cheek rest is made of aluminum so if it's cold outside, prepare to have your cheek frozen to the cheek rest. This part could easily have been made of polymer to save weight and not be so cold.

In the end, I scrapped the mount portion. I took the cheek rest portion and stuck it to the underfolder arm using double-sided tape. Then I used small zip ties through the mounting holes and around the underfolder arm to keep it locked in place. Finally I wrapped it all in paracord which not only secures it further to the underfolder arm but

Best Polymer Sights for the Money

Written on Jan 10, 2023

These come in at a great value in my opinion. I was a little hesitant at first because there is no manual locking mechanism for the sight in the upward/downward position, meaning I'd like to have to push a button to fold them up/down, but my worries were eliminated once I felt how solid the lockup was. These detent nice and firm in the up and down positions. These sights are also easy to adjust. As a bonus, the aesthetics happened to match my Sig Romeo5 red dot perfectly and they co-witness like they were meant to be used together. I ordered this separately from the rear sight which was cheaper than buying them as a set.

US made steel sights for $30? Yes please.

Written on Jan 07, 2023

I can't believe these aren't the most popular fiber optic sights for a Glock MOS. I own sights from Trijicon, Dawson, AmeriGlo, TruGlo and more and these are on par, if not better than all of them. Quality is excellent. I could tell the steel was good quality when I was fitting them to a Zafari Precision slide with sandpaper and a file. The other thing I love about these is there's a recess for the rear of the fiber optic (the part you look at) so the bulbed end of the rod is recessed into the sight blade. Many fiber optic sights don't have this feature and the fiber optic can wiggle around, not to mention the bulb is exposed and can break off over time. These sights co-witness with my red dot, exactly as I had hoped. I can't recommend these sights enough, especially for the price.

Really love it

Written on Nov 07, 2022

I was expecting a “break-in” period being Cerakoted and the fact almost nothing but the frame on my G45 is factory Glock. This slide ran flawlessly with a L2D threaded barrel, an Aim Surplus barrel and the factory Glock barrel. The pistol is significantly lighter too which feels great when wielding.

The only thing I noticed slightly different was the rear sight dovetail which is tighter than the factory Glock slide. The factory Glock sight would not fit into the dovetail and the aftermarket sights I installed required some fitting, no big deal.

Aesthetically, this slide looks really nice. I have TiN coated barrels which contrast beautifully with the black Cerakote. Couldn’t be happier.

One of the best charging handles in my opinion

Written on Sep 28, 2022

I really love this charging handle. It's not ridiculously oversized but there's plenty to grab on to. The serrations are nice and aggressive but do not cut your fingers. I showed my brother my new AR pistol and the first thing he said was: "I like that charging handle". I have this on a 300blk pistol that I generally only shoot suppressed and I didn't notice any gas in my face. The gas diverting design seems to be effective (even though there's generally less gas with 300blk). I really don't think this charging handle can be beat for the money.

My only nitpick is they wrote "OPMOD" and "OPTICSPLANET MODIFICATION" on the top of the charging handle. I'm not sure what modification they made other than writing that on there but it's obviously not visible when installed and in the forward position.

Best polymer sights for the money

These detent nice and firm in the up and down positions. These sights are also easy to adjust, which brings me to my only con. The rear aperture is almost completely to the right for my to shoot to point of aim. This could be my pistol (300blk AR) but it seems strange for an AR to be that far right. All in all, I like them and the style happens to match my Sig Romeo5.
