About the project

The Challenge

Murichu primary school is located in Murichu Sub Location, in Ndaragwa North District, Nyandarua County and about 12 kilometers from Nyahururu town.

The 14 latrines for both students and teachers, are in a poor state creating unhealthy surroundings and risk of disease to both the students, teachers and the entire community at large.

Water has been scarce in the school making students and teachers have suffer as water from Ndaragwa is supplied once a week

The Intervention

The Safaricom Foundation in partnership with Kenya Rain Water Association (KRA) invested Ksh. 935,000 and Ksh. 917,000 respectively, towards the construction of the two projects, totaling to Ksh. 1,852,000.

New VIP latrines and a 75,000 litres masonry water tank will increase the supply of water to the school and its environs.

Teachers and students now have easy access to the new VIP latrine and the new masonry water tanks.

The Impact

With the new 75,000 liters masonry water tank, the school and community at large will now enjoy increased water supply.

The new sanitation facilities has spacious passageways suitable for 290 students and see special needy students and the young children have access to clean sanitation facilities.

Clean safe water and proper improved sanitation facilities will help boost the morale of the students in their academic endeavors.
