About the project
The Challenge
Sacred Heart girls school is owned by the Daughters of Sacred Heart, a congregation of sisters. It started in 2004 with thirty six pioneer students and it has now grown to a population of 200 students. Sacred Heart girls school is a faith based school and not a profit making learning institution active in academic as well as in co-curricular activities. Since its inception, the school has guided students through to tertiary colleges and Universities. It sponsors an orphan or a poor child in every class and the number will increase as the school continues to stabilize financially.
The Intervention
With the school’s enrolment on the rise, Safaricom foundation supported Sacred Heart girls’ school with a donation of Kshs 1,352,930/= which was used for the purchase of 3 energy saving jikos, painting of Eight classrooms, Dining hall, Kitchen, two dormitories and two ablution blocks.
The Impact
This will go a long way in enhancing a comfortable learning environment for the current and prospective students of supported Sacred Heart girls’ school. The girls can also have comfortable dormitories to rest and will be alert and concentrate during lessons. Energy saving Jikos will not only be contributory in preparing their meals but this is good for the environment too.
